Whilst en route from Port Elizabeth I noticed that as soon as I switch on the spot lights the fuel gauge starts fluctuating. When spots are switched off the fuel gauge returns to normal. I have a set of Hella FF500 55Watt spots which are fitted in accordance with the Hella instructions using the Hella supplied wiring, relay and switch. There is no link between the spots' wiring and the fuel gauge.
I can only think that the wiring might be too thin or that the relay is inadequate . Anybody have any other ideas?

Hauw, mine does exactly the same But seeing that to date I have only driven my Patrol that once up from Cape Town and not had the chance again I thought I might have been imagining it
Jorrie, Tinus toer op die oomblik in Europa en sal sover ek weet omtrent die 15de eers terug wees.
It sounds like a bad earth connection to me, but where I can't tell you. It could conceivably be the main earth between the battery and the body, but this is probably unlikely. It could be either of the two earths on the spotlights (switching line earth or main line earth), it could be the fuse boxe's earth or even the instrument cluster or the gauge sender unit's earth.
Jorrie ek is seker dit moet daai computer box van jou Trol wees, hy reken seker so as daai spots brand soek
Jy na iets voor in die pad en dit moet net petrol pomp wees waarna jy soek so hy se jou gee my aandag. Ek is DORS
Thanks Piet.
