2-stroke oil

Post by davejones »

Are any of the diesel owners using 2 stroke oil? I've read a bit about it; not sure how necessary in South Africa?

By "using two stroke oil" I take it you are referring to adding a small quantity of two stroke oil to every tank of diesel??

I`m not sure its "necessary", but after doing some reading on the potential benefits, I`ve been adding 500ml of two stroke to every tank for the last 6 months or so. The difference is subtle, but the Troll runs noticeably smoother especially when cold. From what I`ve read this would mostly be attributed to better lubrication of the injector pump.

To be more specific - 2-stroke added in with the diesel!

Thanks Ross; I think i'll give it a try. I read on the LCCSA site that up on the reef during winter it is beneficial; but needed a second opinion from a PATROL owner

I have been doing this trick for a long time. I had an Isuzu 280 DT, with 500 000Km with still the origional un-opened turbo and origional un-opened motor. Slightly more smoke, but nothing major. I still add 2 stroke to my 3.0 V6 petrol SANI. Reason.... lubricate the the pumps and injectors etc.
Will deffinitely do this with the Maiden. She likes a little extra lubrication....... :inlove: ..... :rolling:

The two-stroke lets you wheelie lekker....hehehehe

I'm seriously considering giving this a go.....my only concern would be long term tarry buildup on the injector tips and pistons heads. But I suppose a good flush with injector cleaner every 5000kms or so should sort that out. Any of the gearheads have any other info?

Been doing it since Arnord from CRD in Alberton gave the advice. No negative in it in more that a year of use.

It may be in my head.... but I think the Maiden has a little more oomph :deathmetal: ... and only a fraction more smoke.
