Can you identify this???

Post by PaulvdMerwe »

Good day all,

As some of you have noticed I am in the process of repairing my ZD30..... and no this grenade did not go BOOOM

Due to a faulty injector it over fueled on no 1 cylinder.

When I striped it, I found the following bits in the sump, could you perhaps help me identify it??

I would really like your assistance with this

Thanks

Hi Paul,it looks like its part of the camshaft thrusts that has broken of at the cam saddles. It looks very similar to the 3ZZ Toyota engines cam configurations

good luck

I can add that it is about 15mm in diameter.

Hope this helps.

Hmmmm.... yes ...photo was deceiving... hahaha

Could that be something to do with the valves.... a guide of sorts. I assume there are no push rods in a ZD?? The size (15mm) is quite small. The ID of that would be probably around 8mm..... whats the diameter of a valve shaft?

Difficult to see exactly, but is that brass???? the colouring on it looks a little different to what normal metal would look like I think.
Regards
Cedric

Ricster,

Spot on. The inner diameter is 8 mm, not brass though, rather looks to be a very hard service.
My thought is also something around a valve, but the diameter looks a bit small.
I will strip the head and check.

Hi Julle,

Baie dankie vir die input...

Nee ek het die valve springs uit gehaal en dit is nie dit nie.

Die ding se diameter is kleiner.
outer diameter = 15 mm
