Nissan Neo ZD 30

Post by Dave Faddel »

Hi all, long time since I have visited or contributed to the site. Well here goes, asking for some help for my grenaded ZD30. I blew the motor a while ago and have simply parked the Patrol in my garage. The time has arrived to make a decision. I have found a very good ZD 30 motor from a Nissan Neo.This was very obviously not available in South Africa so have very little to go on. I have got an itch to buy the motor (a BIG itch) but am worried. All info I can get seems the Neo was front wheel drive it seems (don't actually know) It's slightly down on power and quite a whack on torque (about 40nM if I recall)
Has anybody any idea of the motor, will it fit onto my auto box. I recon it's from about a 2006/7 Neo and my Patrol is 2001 ... Any help would be highly appreciated.

A F I K the ZD 30 came in different vehicles -- even th e2003 Terrano II came with it [also the down rated one to th ePatrol's engine.

Deon, aka: THABIES [also on this site] had his grenade replaced with a ZD 30 from the Hard Body .. and he has not stopped smiling since.

I dont think anyone on this end woul know about the NEO .. BUT I THINK the front wheel drive models het a weaker crank & bearing requirement .. but that's guesswork.. Mr Connan ?? how you think?

I do not know about the Neo, but I do know that these engines are not all the same, and hence may not be as simple a transplant.

See this post:
http://www.patrol4x4.co.za/viewtopic.ph ... 2&start=10

In 2011, Andre Odendaal bought an import ZD30 for R20000 to replace his grenade. He specifically asked for a Patrol engine. On closer investigation they found that it is a Terrano engine and that the two engine management systems are not compatible, which would have meant additional costs. The importers of the engine argued that it is suitable for the Patrol when it was not the case.

The Neo may be compatible. But make very sure of this from a trusted and knowledgeable source.

Dave, my brother Jeanne replaced a grenade motor with a TD 42 Turbo. He is sover happy with the car that he is now converting his one 4.5 into a Diesel aswell.

I would suggest you good for a 4.2 TDI if you can
