I agree with making the wheel base longer
I still think the four door Rubicon has the ideal wheel base. Long enough for better balance, but short enought not to require a 348-point turn for manoevering. and not too long to compromisse the cross over angle too much.
Problem possibly with the strength of your revised drive train?
How do yo do this. Do you install an all new longer prop-shaft? Or a crawler gear in between?
We will be putting in a new propshaft, the original one is only about 35cm long and it will now be 60 cm long, and that is still +- 30cm shorter than a lwb Patrol, so it should be strong.
The wheel base is now 105" or 266 cm compared to the SWB 94.5" or 240 cm and the LWB 116.9" or 297cm, so right in the middle
About the Unlimited Jeep, go and check the unlimited jeep's wheelbase is only 7cm shorter (290cm) than a long wheelbase Patrol, but both front and back have almost now overhang,
I have been running 35" tyres for a while now, and the ratio's seems to be ok.
Het jy n langer prop om korter te maak?
Graham het een van daai kort proppe gesoek vir iemand .ek weet Dawid het lang props by hom
Daai patrol gaan n monster wees as jy klaar is met hom .
I imagine you'd need to do the following, amongst others:
- Extend the prop shaft
- long-arm rear lowers AND Uppers
- Move chassis mount for Panhard rod point
- Move Chassis mount for Coil Hats
- Extend Brake lines
- Move Load Brake Proportioning Valve setup
What else would one need to do?
I have always believed 100" wheel base to be the perfect wheelbase for a 4wd,...
With the SWB patrol, any lift at all pulls the wheels even closer together (ie: Radius arc on the rear ), making it even shorted, so yes, this would be a great modification!
