GQ Rear Brakes

Post by Stefaansie »

Hi Guys,

Hope someone can help,

Is it a big thing to convert the rear brakes from drums to discs? I would really like to have some better stopping power. I don't understand that my truck is the only one that came out with drums in stead of discs. Unless its not the original axle.

Would be interesting to know.

Thanks

Andre, drums work fairly well untill they get either hot or wet.

If it is just stopping power you want, I suspect your money might get better results if spent at the front end?

Hi Peter,

Not sure about that. I know that the GQ patrols have the safari brake system, but mine has discs.

Howdy,

My GQ is a '96 model.

Methinks the LS diff is on the way out as well. It vibrates when driving at a constant speed on the highway.

So, my next question:

Can one change the ratio on the newer 4,5 or 4,8 diff( with a nice diff-lock) from a 3.999:1( i think) to a 4,111:1?
Will it be cost effective? Or do you think I should stick with the drums and fix up the LSD?
I'm just trying to weigh all my options here.

Your advice would be appreciated.

Or just make sure it has the right oil - the limited slip diff requires a different oil than normal diffs. Castrol LSX is a good choice!
