K&N Air Filter

Kobus, is the K&N filter one of the high performance ones or is it of the same type as the original Nissan cyclonic air cleaner?

I have heard that the K&N high performance filters don't filter as effectively as the original. They enhance engine performance somewhat due to the fact that they create less restriction in the inlet, but this is achieved by reducing the filtration efficiency. Some of the K&N filters also require oiling with a special oil, but this is risky as the oil can find its way onto the mass air flow sensor and damage this.

I'm not sure if it is the high performance one - but you need to oil this one. When there is a chance that I am going to get a lot of dust on the road, I put the original filter back. I will put the K&N back in tonight - I will check but I'm sure I get a better fuel consumption with the K&N.

Will put the original back for the Kgalagadi trip.

OOM Herrie

Ek stel baie belang in so een.

:woo:

En hy klink baie mooi!!

If I am not mistaken, Koos Best has a K&N filter. Also refer to the Patrol Refernece Docoment on this forum for more details. I am convinced not to use a replacement airfilter in the ZD30 engine. As the doc says, the whole engine was designed around the filter. I almost done 200 000km trouble free with my ZD30. The engine design and subsequent management is crutiaL to the life-span of the engine.
