Good bye 4.2

Post by dieselfan »

So we trying to source a new 4.2 Pickup, Nissan SA says no stock and we must wait for the "new" 3.0l liter due in 2013, when I queried if it's the same as in current patrol they couldn't answer but I have no doubt it is

How well will a 3.0 hold out LOADED with 1 tonne near permanently vs the older 4.2 - speed not an issue as long as it can do 100km/h

That would be a real pity. Big mistake IMHO.

The 3litre had issues. I can fogive Nissan for making mistakes.
But Nissan not being able to adress the issues properly, 9 years after these problems became apparent, is more difficult to forgive!
They should be able to tell you exactly what they have changed to that engine and why you should not ever be concerned about handgrenading anymore.
If they cannot do that, then I am really dissappointed.

The 3.0ZD pickup will be the same body shape as before, i can almost guaranty that. I just saw an article on the Auzzie Spec one and besides them having the Tray-Back,rear coil/leaf option and front fender flares like the current 4.8/3.0 wagons', the rest is business as usual.

I own a TD4.2 NA diesel Pickp, and i chose this over the TD42Ti as i didnt want the turbo thing. But, i must say,i wouldnt hesitate to buy a NEW ZD30 Pickup. But i would have to insist that i buy NEW!.

I reckon its actually going to be great combination and definitely more suited as an allround everyday workhorse that can do the town run or freeway with greater ease, all while gettin gmuch better fuel figures. Look, i wouldnt trade my TD42 for it as i believe that is one of the best motors ever , but a new ZD30 driven with respect may be a reasonable buy, as it seems there are far less issues the last 3-5 years with these motors than in previous years. I agree though, would be nice to know what was actually changed by nissan.

Never thought id say this.

Russ what you think about this part?

This is to be used permanently for my parents retirement camper, we were considering a LC too but my dad believes a Patrol to be better especially after watching this...not totally decided yet especially after current news

I did not know that when the hubs are locked, you can shift from 4L to 4H at up to 80 km/h. - That is useful information.
However, I was always under the impression that the roof can carry up to 200kg (not 100kg)
Not much change left after the weight of two adults sleeping on a roof top...
It may just be the later models that are lighter on top?

Still, I would be reluctant to buy a ZD30 engine, unless I also, from the start, invest in Grootseun's mods, plus the EGT.

I haven't watched the video yet... but 4H to 4L??.... do you not mean 2H to 4H??..... I would imagine lots of gears crunching if you slap it into 4L from 4H....
