New drawer, dual battery & compressor.

Post by Tony »

Ok I eventually bit the bullet and have just completed a series of upgrades, all done at Big Country 4x4. I originally had two storage boxes made up by a cabinet maker in wood so as to have place for my goodies - however the space utilisation was never great, ... and then I bought a fridge which brought about a series of changes! Big Country built me a drawer system to my spec. with a fridge slider alongside, this has two options so I can pack around the fridge and still access it while on the move, as well as a complete cover so as to pack all round and on top without damaging the fridge. They also made a deck to cover the slider when the fridge is out and I need a full flat boot. Next, we fitted a 2nd battery behind the fridge and attached an ARB dual compressor to it, but mounted in the engine bay, the roof rack was next, with an LED worklight also connected to the 2nd battery but controlled via the old switch on the dash that turned on the fog lights in the front fender that I lost when I fitted my bull bar. This works great when reversing at night with only one reverse light!! (Just got to remember to turn it off!!)

While they were about it, we decided to carpet the two back door panels as the old ones were scratched and messed up a bit from moving items in the boot - Richard then opted to fit a fold up table to the RHS door which he designed specially for the Patrol, and that is a real winner. I was a little sceptical at first, thinking it would be a waste of money, but after seeing the finished product and using it I changed my mind very quickly!

I have attached some pics, starting with the old wooden boxes. Oh and by the way, if anyone is interested in the old ones, they can have 'em.

You don't want to know!! Everything from comressor hose & fittings to tools, fastening straps, fire lighting goodies, torches, knives, first aid kit, mozzie nets, 2-way radios, rope, can openers, chargers, braai tongs - you name it, it's there - field guides; even the old bicycle pump, patch & solution! Basically everything we need when we go camp. I thought I was nicely organised with my old setup, but now there is so much more that can be kept permanently in the car, so less things that could be left behind.
