Also on the same point having very modern engines with plastic manifolds and carbin intakes ect . Driving on bad corrugated dirt roads puts a lot of strain on these engines ....the diff in feul economy quickly becomes less than the amout of breakdowns .....saw two 3.2 fords and a couple of modern landies this week broken down due to manifolds and pieces of modern engines breaking ....this is africa we need strong old school stuff not racing cars

The bakkie on the 4x4community page was 'built-up', not purchased like that. I think it (the other ad) is either an import, a spelling mistake or a hoax.

Who can tell me what the 4.2 weighs. I can't seem to find anywhere under the engine specs on any of these motors what they weigh.

David, all i can say is- it's bliksems heavy.

Myself and Mark couldn't lift the sub-assembly of my 4.2...

The one that I posted the photographs of does seem to exist (i.e. I don't think it is a spelling mistake or a hoax), but I suppose anything is possible. The exterior shots show a GP registered pick-up with all of the 2004 update styling ques and the engine bay shot shows a ZD30. It is advertised for sale by Produkta Nissan in Nelspruit with only something like 3000 km on the odo, so probably unlikely to be a personal import either. The wording in the ad includes the following:
BRAND NEW NISSAN PATROL MODEL RANGE!Serious 4x4 This Bakkie has not even been launched yet! Straight from the factory!
Here is the link to the ad: http://www.autotrader.co.za/used-cars/n ... del/patrol

It is also advertised on Carfind.

Dave.... that 4.2 diesel motor is ffffffffff......lippin heavy. Just the empty head ( cast iron ) alone I battled to pick up alone and put into the back of wifes car . The empty block I couldn't pick up on my own. I could just about lift one side to put a block of wood underneath, and do the same for the other side. it's a BIG motor too.... weight saving was not a key issue when designed. :surprised: :surprised:

Take the motor out of a 4.2 diesel and the patrol does a stationary wheelie.... :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

The ZD 30 (also cast iron) is already heavier than my V8.
So I can only imagine what the 4.2 must weigh.

This GP reg pickup is the real thing. A friend of mine tried to order the 4.2 a while back and was told no stock will be brought in as they were waiting on arrival of the 3.0lt variant. So, ja, its finally here,...not that anyone was hoping for it.

The 3.0 Pickup will now replace the TD42 motor line-up and thats it as far as i know.

The one in the picture seems like a genuine Nissan import model as per nissan dealerships, why they havnt updated the website is a mystery tho, and is typical behaviour of a company that doesnt really care about its clients or its flagship model, which is in-keeping with Nissan South Africa in general.
