The Detroit locker (and the auzzy copy called the "lokka" is a very different kettle of fish from an LSD.

It lock completely when there is no traction on a wheel, it will lock that wheel to the diff carrier, but a wheel with traction can "overrun" the carrier. In fact, this unit is actually not even a diff in the normal sense of the word, as there are no spider gears, and the two output shaft have no connection to each other, they are only connected to the carrier.

The problem is that the driver has no control over it's function, short of un-locking the hubs selectively, which probably doesn't help either.

The thread you linked to doesn't mention this, and I can't find any pictures in the manual, but I suspect the gap between the bearing carriers may be different to accomodate the locking ring.

Looking at the amount of mods involved, I doubt this will be cheaper than fitting an aftermarket locker.

Getting back to your original question, must diesel GQ wagons in SA have LSD's instead of lockers.

my 2 cents....a lsd that is 100% correct is much better to use and you dont have all the vacuum hoses and seliniods etc and you dont have to switch it on and off
you can drive it on tar gravel dirt sand without thinking about it......
