The chip hype is over rated. I have not heard from any body that got a huge improvement in fuel usage as claimed by the chip manufacturers.
It all depends how you drive the car. I got on a recent trip to Namibia 16l/100km ( 6.25 km/l) fully loaded,my speed was between 100km/h and 110km/h leading a convoy. This is with a standard 4.8. In the desert was another story , but got a respectable 3.2km/l in the dunes. On most of my open road trips my fuel average is between 18 and 19l/100km depending on the wind
When you go the chip route you also need to look at your exhaust system.

I have said so and I say again: CHIP ON IT's OWN THE DIFFERENCE DOES NOT MAKE !!! fullstop [en sommer fool stop ook]
Choose between MAUS / Van Der Linde or Steve's Auto Clinic [Gauteng .. dunno about the rest of country - down Cape Town way is one Kosie Swanepoel who seems to be good]
Then: Have the heads gas flowed: Profile the CAM tou YOUR needs [either low end POWER i.e: Torque - OR performance [kilowatts]
THEN fit branches and a decent freeflow exhuast system .. if after all that you still deem it necc'sry, you CHIP it AND dyno at the place that does the chip

Had all of the above done to mine at Vanderline and it did nothing for the consumption even if I drive it in a civilised fashion. But that said it goes like a rocketship now.
If you buy a Patrol make peace with the consumption or you will never enjoy it.

My resultate op n 4.5:
Voor dyna: 125.3kw / 288 Nm
Na dyna: 146.2kw / 336 Nm
Ek kry nou so 6.2km/l

Nee oom mac man !!!!!!!!!fokus mens haal nie n engine wat werk uit en ruil hom vir n lexus nie met daai 2km pper liter verskil gaan jy seker 300000 km moet ry om die 50k te betaal of meer
As hy bom soos alex sin ander storie .........

Almal het probleme met speedos senders aircon en en
Kos nooit wat manne oorspronklik gedink het nie altyd meer

Dom vraag van n rekenmeester, hoekom doen n Patrol 4.8 nie beter in die duine nie, sekerlik met daardie kragtige motor en 1bar bande behoort hy mos oor die sand te float ??
