Wouter the difflock warning light is on the other side of the instrument cluster, at the top left.

If I remember correctly it is orange and says "diff lock" (not a picture), but I am not sure now. I will try and post a photo for you tomorrow unless one of the other guys beats me. Be advised though on our old patrols, this light never flashes. It is either on or off, and it will be off when you switch the difflock switch on, it will only light up when the diff actually locks up.

If you are still unsure of wether the diff lock works, I would recommend the following test:
1) Chock up the two front wheels.
2) Place both the gearbox and the transfer case in neutral.
3) Jack up one of the rear wheels using the vehicle's jack.
4) Start the engine and let it idle, and release the handbrake.
5) Turn the rear wheel that is airborne, to ensure that it turns freely.
6) Switch on the diff lock, and turn the rear wheel again. The difflock should engage before the wheel has turned fully around. Only now would the come on.

Be carefull not to drop the car on you, and remember to switch the difflock of before you lower the car.

If you can make an old 4.2 rn at 8km/l I am getting an SGL first thing coming back from Namibia. Lots of them in Gumtree lately.

Please post the detail of that weber, I am interested.

Is it possible to convert the 4.2 petrol to EFI or is it not advised?

OB1 there were fuel-injected 4.2's overseas. If you can get hold of the manifold etc from overseas I am sure it can be done.

A friend of mine, Christo Boegman (Bogeyman) has an imported fuel-injected 4.2 (the one on the cover of this month's WegRy). He has now upgraded to 4.5 using the 4.2's original fuel injection, and also speaks of 7.5km/l and a top speed of over 180. Therefore it should theoretically also be possible to fit the 4.5's fuel injection to the 4.2.

Be warned though, all these jobs are expensive, and it will take you a lot of miles to pay them off, and further you stand a chance of reducing the reliability.

Carefull, everything is relative.

My odometer on my 94 GQ was way out, after I changed to 33" tyres it became slightly more accurate, ± 7% pessimistic.

All I am saying is to first ensure the odometer is exact before regarding any consumption figures as religion.

I just had my carb (standard issue) overhauled at SP carbs in Kempton, R850, but still only 6.2 km/l

Nobody answered his question pertaining to fuel - what octane, unleaded or lrp? Mine use Lrp and I hope that is right. Please advise, but during the switchover to unleaded I remember car magazine enquiring from all automakers in SA and that Nissan stated all engines after 1990 could use unleaded, but I speak under correction.
