Park Distance Control

Post by AndriesS »

I got used to some of the new tech stuff on new cars and decided to fit a PDC to the patrol. I did not go for the el cheapy but a product being fitted by most of the alarm type shops. I bought it directly from the local agents and must say I was pleasantly surprised with the product. If there is demand I'll do a write up.

After my son reversed into a car with the Pajero and the wife battles with judging the distance when reversing, I bought a kit from Hyperama for R100-00. Installed it and it works perfectly.

I also want to go the PDC (and later camera) route with my Patrol - m y problem is I have Burnco's off road steel bumpers which is about 3mm thick!!! How do you fit a pdc to something this thick - those holes must be fairly precision drilled???

Any ideas :eureka:

On the "thinner" metal bumpers, i.e. steel the supplier had grommets that could be used to fit the sensor, if it is a Alu bumper or thicker steel bumper the actually say you need to cut off the sensors retaining clips and silicon it in place. The sensor uses sonar so it vibrates a bit and if it is fitted in a steel bumper it needs to be isolated with grommet or silicon.

As for drilling the hole, a decent bi metal hole saw is very effective or use a step drill, they are expensive but as a DIy'er I can really say it's worth it. On the plastic bumper you still need to dril 2 25mm holes in the stifner and it works like a charm. I've used mine plenty times on 1.6mm tubing 4mm flat bar etc without problems.

I used the Bestech product and included in the fitment instruction was a picture of a late model patrol and where to put the sensors. Each unit is setup as per this fitment instruction and I changed it slightly. The unit then allows you to recalibrate for your sensor positions.

Oh yes on the Land Cruiser Forum someone fitted a camera sourced from Top CCTV inscape town. The camera mounting was designed specifically for a number of cruiser models, i.e. remove number plate light and fit supplied combination (camera an light in one)in exact same space. Sounds like they have a generic one, maybe someone down there can have a look. I see the patrol ones are fitted to the left of the door handle's lever and looks like there is plenty space.

Pieter, ek sien op jou profile het jy al klaar n DVD voor en agter, jy sal heel moontlik die kamera se video dan op die dvd se video kan sit.
