EGT GAUGE ?

Post by KOOS BEST »

As you all know by now I have traded in my Patrol for a Discovery 3 TDV6 2.7.
I have taken off all my extras from the Patrol and are busy transferring it to the Discovery.
EGT Gauge, dual battery system, compressor etc etc.
Trying to fit the EGT Gauge , I could not find the Turbo on the Discovery , eventually believe or not its sits at the most stupidist place prone for damage , in the left wheel arch above the front axle, at least it is protected by a stone guard and heat shield. I was looking for a place to install the thermo couple, pre turbo. On the Patrol I had it post turbo.
I phoned Brian from Madman seen that they manufacture plates with couplings for Landies TD5 and Tdi, he told me they havent done any for the Disco3 , because its not neccessary. Looking on the oz land Rover site , they also state the ECU will control it. Whish I doubted.!!!!!!

Until this morning a friend walks in here that tow a Jurgens Excape, with a Disco3 6 spd manual. He have just done a trip through the Kruger. I was questioning him re. the towing capabilities when he said something strange happened. Anybody that knows the road from Badplaas going up to the Oshoek /Lochiel road , the massive long uphill , we actually can free wheel for 11km downhill. He says last week it was cooking at 40 deg when he was just about on the crest the Disco suddenly went in limp mode (can not exceed 1500rpm) with an engine fault coming up, the next thing on the dash it states "HIGH EGT ENGINE IN LIMP MODE" . Off course he said the only thing you think about the turbo or the engine went bang., he pulled off , phoned the agents , explained what happened and they reported back it a safety feature, he can start and go. Started all fine , limp mode claered from there until he reached home 400km later.

My reason for posting this , I never thought a vehicles ECU can pick this up.
I always said its the uphills that you overfuel and thats when everything goes BANG!!!!
I have driven for years with this gauge and had to control it by myself with the foot to never exceed the 720 deg limit pre turbo, and believe me it happens with the sligthest off incline.
Sorry to "verveel" you with this Discovery feature

Actiually it would be the French that got it right. Isn't that a Peugeot motor?

Its a Peugeot, Jaguar, Land Rover combined effort apparently. .
if this engine can be in the patrol , if only!!!!!
The rumours are they do have a brand new 3.0D 185KW AND 600NM coming in the Patrol, from French origin, is it the same as used in the Discovery4 , twin sequential Turbo?

Koos,

Dit gaan ook 'n interessante geskarrel afgee as dieselfde part teen verskillende pryse by verskillende handelaars beskikbaar gaan wees.

Ek is oortuig die 3.0TD V6 enjin in die Landy is oorspronklik BMW. Skiet my maar...ek dink so.
Patrol fan!
