UK spec Y60 4.2 GR (GQ) Injection, 182 000km
UK spec Y60 4.2 GR (GQ) Injection, 182 000km
Time to sell my wedding car :)
Asking Price: Not set yet. I am looking to sell if the price is right. So wanting offers. Final word at the latest end of June, but could be a lot sooner if there is a good offer.
Why I am selling: I don't have the R30k odd required to reinstate this vechile to it's deserved state. See issues.
Vehicle: Y60 (GR). UK spec (GR), so some parts are SA Y61 (like brake discs). I always thought about it as somewhere between a Y60 and a Y61. Have a look at the wipers on the front lights.
Engine: Fuel injected, TB42E, Petrol, 4.2. Don't think the SA version ever had injection. Not sure it gives more power..but in my mind it did :)
Transmission: Auto
Odometer: 114 000 miles = 182 000 km
Tyres: 5 Cooper ST, about 15 000km
Seats: Heated leather seats (pretty awesome)
Standard, except for branches (TNT) and stainless steel free flow, replaced stock radio/tape with a modern radio, removed plastic wheel arches.
Issues:
1. The most work is required wrt rust, which is mostly on the chassis with a little on the inner bodywork. This would require deoxydene and a tool for brushing off the stuff. This is by far the biggest issue. It's going to require time and elbow grease for sure. Look, these chassis are thick, but the idea of rust not great of course.
2. Front axle has a leak on the right. Not sealing nicely. I always just top it up every few thousand km's. Not a major issue.
3. Right front hub is bust. This will mean replacement.
4. Diff lock is vacuum engaged and the solenoid is dirty. I've cleaned it before and it worked perfectly. But there is evidently a leak somewhere on the steal piping (probably due to the rust). But the actual difflock works.
These are the bigger stuff. There's obviously always some smaller stuff like a globe or a this or a that. Serious buyers are welcome to view.
Posting photos in a moment.
Questions welcome.
Cheers
Ernst

Have not recently measured. But last trip centurion to durban to sani pass through lesotho back to centurion gave 5.5 km per litre. And we moved on the tar. And of course we played where we could..ala Lesotho.
That was with a Suzuki samurai on a-frame for all the tar sections.
Waw also before the free flow. It still has stock distributor too and an electronic will help.
With an electronic distributor and considering the rest above, you could maybe get 6.5. But thats just guessing.

Re: UK spec Y60 4.2 GR (GQ) Injection, 182 000km
This car is exactly like my red Gq. Mine has done a little more mileage.
The tb42e engine is great and I regularly got 7km/l.(I still have the old engine).
When I had to pay R6000 for a head gasket and wait 2 months for replacement pistons the decision was made to replace the motor with a Tb45e.
The instrument cluster can be swapped with a local Gq (from Dawid) and then you will have a km/h speedo.
Great car and the favourite of all my Patrols.
