It was 4.2D which then got turbo'd somewhere prior to 2008.
Mods: Ironman suspension, mechanical speed control, Safari Snorkel, and Madman EGT (the latter he got after my hand grenade in 2011). Done by SAC in Centurion.
I have been in that car when towing and never did it go over 500 deg.
Total kms is 385k, of which the last 200k were after the turbo. The turbo has been replaced once since.
Its done tons of over landing since the turbo and no issues.
Only once have we been on a 4x4 trail together, and that was Serendipity 4x4 in 2010.
The owner is much more of an overlander than a trail driver.
So it has mainly been used for overlanding and other commutes.
Consumption is 7.2 km per litre on long distance, fully loaded.
I am really sad to see my friend sell his Patrol, but he has gone soft, and bought himself a Prado!?
