Re: Patrol 4.2 TD - mods for more power
Thanks Kobus.
I had the same problem when I fitted the lexus engine into my 60 series LC. (Coolant radiator not intercooler though).
I did something similar to Michael and cut some slots into the bumper (not as neat though).
It's probably better that I get the madman fitted first to keep a close eye on engine temps.

Hi dave , if you dont mind me asking, how much did they quote you to do these mods? (Madman, exhaust, tuning fuel pump).djhep wrote:I called the guys in Boksburg and will take the bakkie to them when I arrive back from work.
They recommend fitting a madman system, fitting a larger bore exhaust and tuning the fuel pump. Pretty much what you guys have also recommended....thx again for the good info.
Because I am really interrested in going the same route with my 4.2td.
And i also think that it would be easier to have it all done at the same place/time.

Hi Fanus. ....
They quoted R8500 for the exhaust and tune up.
I didn't get a price on the madman but believe it should be around R3500 to R4000 fitted.
Hope this helps.....
All the best.
Dave

Re: Patrol 4.2 TD - mods for more power
I am looking at a Devils Own water meth injection system at the moment. The Aussie guys are having alot of success with these. Especially if you are towing. And the cool boost systems should be available locally soon. You set it to come in at say 0.3Bar and reach max flow at 0.6Bar.
I am also looking at a bigger turbo. The HT 18 it comes standard with is a heat pump over 0.7 odd. The idea is to get a cooler boost, quicker spool and then cap it at 1Bar. The standard fuel pump is about at its limit then. I quickly spoke to tour de frans about that a few weeks ago.
Waiting for the cash flow to settle again before going that way.

Biggles, just out of interest. Have you ever tested how much your turbo will ba able to boost max?
I dont have a very big turbo on my setup and mine boosts 1.1 bar if I pull off the actuator pipe, maybe do a test on yous and see

0.8 is the highest I have ever seen it. My actuator is permanently off...Michael wrote:Biggles, just out of interest. Have you ever tested how much your turbo will ba able to boost max?

Do you have the Mitsu TD05? That is the turbo I am looking at... or maybe just go big and get a garret.
