Wheel Bearings - Help... I think.

They dont work on car model. But will have any bearing for you. Give them the nr on the bearing.
All my bearings (4 wheels) R2300 incl.
The seals from Nissan are cheap.
Your truck(if I remenber correct) will have a differant bearing in the back. Full float axle. If so the bearings in the back will be even cheaper.
To test for noise. Lean the car side to side and listen for changes in sound. Humming.
Try a smooth tyre for your bearing test. A bit efford but worth it.

I did the test to listen for humming, but like you said, i need smooth tyres because my BFG Mud terrains are now fairly worn and are making a hellova noise, so its hard to tell which it is. ..

I also jacked the car up and spun the tyre, and rocked the tyre, and there was no noise and no rumbling, also no movement, so maybe the bearings are fine?..

I dont do alot of deep water, and when i do its usually for very short period when i drive through a deep bomb-hole of mud and water, but quick in and out, not enough to penetrate i reckon. Maybe thats why the bearings are still good.

Russ those bearings are as strong as the rest of the truck....mabe just pack them again as Piet said his did 200 od thousand and were stil fine just check the drain points behind the hub for water this should give you a good indication of water in your front drive train ....the most problems that I have seen with the bearings are that they are not set up correctly being to loose because guys dont have the correct tool to set it up with .....speak to piet he can send u one

Yes, i really need the right tool... i think its the one with the 2 little spikes, as mine is the Manual locking hubs.

Im going to repack them with grease, I just need to prepare myself for the job, including how to do it, new seals, and correct tooling and grease.

by the way, what grease should i use to re-pack with?

Russ, on the GQ's if it has manual locking hubs then it does not need the two-pronged spanner, instead it uses a normal socket.

But these assemblies use a tab washer, which is supposed to be replaced but which I have been unable to identify the Nissan part number for. I can send you a drawing, and you can have some cut by a local laser cutter?
You will also need a variety of torque wrenches (I use all three of mine).

There is no specific drain plug, it's the lowest of the four bolts holding the king pin swivel bearing caps. Remove bolt and probe with a wire.

Mines a 2007 GU pickup, ..two prong spanner definitely needed, found this out when i check the bearing for play about a year ago.

I must actually arrange that spanner sometime soon!

I found no water in my king pin bearing area when i took my shims out, grease looked perfect and bearings seemed amazing actually. Would i have seen water when i did this or is there another point at which it collects?

If there was water, you would probably have found it there, altthough if the bolt holes were filled with grease you may not have. There is a cap above where the bearing outer race is pressed into the knob on the end of the axle tube, so the only throughpath are the boltholes.
