It will be similar to a full frontal lobotomy, as you'll be discarding all the electronics to start with. The old TD42 motors from the GQs (Grant, etc.) and early GUs (mine, Cedric's, etc.) has no engine management whatsoever.

If you intend to transplant one of the later 4.2 diesel motors that were factory equipped with a turbo, the rules change as they did have an ECU.

Regarding the mechanicals? I have no idea whatsoever...

Also consider the tanks, fuel pump and exhaust.
The tanks need to be taken out and washed out.
New fuel pump and new exhaust pipes.

If this is a GQ (I assume since it has 4.2 in it),
You can pick one up for as little as 50k (Granted the Diesels like Pappa Smurf's are rare).
The cost of an engine conversion from one fuel type to another can easily cost you the same price as a second hand GQ.
So whoever wants to do this must be desperate to drive a GQ diesel rather than petrol?
I have a friend (not on the forum) with a 98 Y61 4.2 (with aftemarket turbo).
He has done more than 100k on the turbo and no problems. His Madman has only exceeded 400deg, when towing heavily, once.
So it is a well built turbo.
Yet he cannot sell the car for more than say 90k.

So why does someone want to go through this much trouble on a GQ?
