Outback Roofrack Whistle noise
Pieter/Cedric,
With regards to the very loud whistling sound when an Outback Roofrack is fitted without the neccesary rubber strips in the grooves of the roofrack I took the following pics (with cellphone - don't know if the quality is ok?)
All the grooves in the front of the roofrack must be fitted with these rubber strips, otherwise it whistles like crazy. The groove on the bottom of the top rail, the groove on the top of the bottom rail as well as the groove on the bottom of the bottom rail. Also not just inbetween the pillars between the top and bottom rail but also on the outside of those pillars.
This shows the 3 grooves to be covered with the rubber strips.

Re: Outback Roofrack Whistle noise
Hmmm... I don't seem to have those rubbers.... and I don't hear any whistling.... then again, I drive a diesel....
... and maybe I should turn the Iron Maiden down on the radio...

or I just don't go fast enough.

Re: Outback Roofrack Whistle noise
MMMMMMMM ......... Maybe it is because I drive a Diesel as well and cannot go that fast, and I do not listen to Iron Maiden that often but my African Outback is a lot quieter that the Frontrunner that I had previously.
Seriously though, I do not have the rubber on mine as well and I do not have the whistling sound.
Regards

My philosophy with noise.
If the music is to load you are getting to old.

Re: Outback Roofrack Whistle noise
Tinus, I think yours might also be quiet because it is mounted quite far back on the roof. If you have a full length rack with the front rail quite far forward (sort of above the top edge of the windshield) then I think any roof rack will make a lot of noise.Tinus lotz wrote:i dont have a problem too and i drive 160 plenty when in a hurry but dont have the top ring on i took it off mabe the noise is less then
