Looks great and see it's from my side of the country
I like the Hi Lift jack mounting position - think I will put my one there as well
How noisy are the Coopers on tar? - I'm looking at some new tyres for my Troll and didn't want to make the same mistake as I did with the wife's Suzi GV and put BFG's A/T's on which make it sound like the diff bearings are packing up

Hummmm Tinus, that's very tempting - are they A/T or M/T - how do they sound on tar?
How does the 265 to 285 size affect articulation - any rubbing?
Presume the speedo will be almost correct to GPS with that size - any power loss felt?

They sound like real man's tyres, not like woosy slicksTunja wrote:Hummmm Tinus, that's very tempting - are they A/T or M/T - how do they sound on tar?

On standard suspension the 285s will just touch the screws that attach the wheel arch trims at full bump travel with a really heavy load (& XPlorer caravan hitchedTunja wrote:How does the 265 to 285 size affect articulation - any rubbing?

Correct assumption. Speedo will be spot-on.Tunja wrote:Presume the speedo will be almost correct to GPS with that size - any power loss felt?

Re: My nuwe speelding
Thanks Tinus, yep I've got Khumo's MT 71's on the Jeep - amazing and good on tar as well.... only problem the radio is permanently stuck on full volumeTinus lotz wrote:They are 285 75 16 mt with ceflar side walls if the road noise bugs you........turn up the radio![]()

Will have a look on the website at the tread pattern etc, present tyre's have about 50% tread left but have a couple of sidewall nicks...So not sure which way to go, if I do Nam this Nov then I'll probabaly get some tyre's before I go mid Sept - must just decide which ones.
Can your mate send me a pic or two of the tyre's to crawlerpilot@gmail.com

Seriously, though, they are more noisy than all terrains, but not so bad that it really bothers me, at least not in the Patrol with its body-on-frame construction.
On standard suspension the 285s will just touch the screws that attach the wheel arch trims at full bump travel with a really heavy load (& XPlorer caravan hitchedTunja wrote:How does the 265 to 285 size affect articulation - any rubbing?). With a lift of 50 to 60 mm I have not been able to get it to touch these screws under the same conditions. The 285s do rub against the inside of the wheel arch at full flex and also rub very lightly against the plastic protector that covers the pipes from the filler neck down to the tank. These touching issues are minor and I live with them, because I am not prepared to move the bump stops down and loose flex.
Correct assumption. Speedo will be spot-on.Tunja wrote:Presume the speedo will be almost correct to GPS with that size - any power loss felt?
Thanks for the feedback Gerrit

Re: My nuwe speelding
Back in Gangsters Paradise, in one peace without a hich
Only thing that went wrong for the whole trip- bank account went belly up
damn that Patrol is thirsty.....
Drove just over 1300km to get back home and I have nothing to much to complain about she didnt give me any problems and did not miss a beat, so mechanically it seems that she's almost 100%.
Four basic things I picked up that I will have to get sorted
1. Pulling to the left
2. 5th gear schratches a bit (but only when car is warm??)
3. Electrical windows not all working
4. Have to connect the Snorkel as the deul battey system installed calls for the Snorkel to be re-routed.
She needs a good wash and polish, nothing some good elbow grease wont see wright, has been fully re-sprayed so not many scratches to talk about for a 17year old car.
Inside also needs good vale and few small things cleaned propperly and so on but nothing to complain about.
But she has more accesories than I barganed on so no complaints there.
Aliminium Bullbar (highlift jack points)
Hella 3000 spot lights
Iron Man Suspension
Air suspension at the back
ARB Lockers in front - working with air compressor (which I can also use for tyres and air suspension
)
Deul battery system built in in the engin compartment
Rock sliders
Aliminium roof rack with high lift jack
Snorkel
UHF radio - do people still use these??
6 mags with 33" Coopers STT done about 23000km.
O and also not a bad sound system
So not much I need to add to that-
Definately long range feul tank
Bash plates
Winch
Body lift??
Any thing else that you guys feel is needed?
Overall I think I made the right choice - time will tell, so firstly a good cleanup and then she can be presented
