Crazy prices at Nissan for spares

Post by Izak »

Hello

Damaged my passenger side brake light set (it might be damaged, I just do not know where it is) last week, so I phoned Nash Nissan in Alberton, R2400 for the lights, excluding the bulbs.

Left rear mudguard, R1200 (not for a set, just the one, sales guy was a little upset when I told him I needed only the one mudguard and not a full set..) So I went to Midas and bought a set of four mudguard from them for ....... wait for it...... R56 for the SET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know it has been said before on this forum, but Nissan dealers via Nissan SA are really not playing the game

Nissan parts is a major problem, the problem is the price.especially PATROL'S and only from stealers.
If we can just find an independent parts importer, I now compare L/Rover parts . In Dbn for instance is a few L/Rover parts importers, and believe me it is so cheap and nothing comes from the East all from Europe.

Example Patrol disc over R 3200.00 , from agents only , L/rover disc for Discovery @ R 500.00 from France.

Somebody needs to stock specific Patrol parts, which can be couriered all over the country to customers.

Agreed. Nissan is insane with their prices in ZA.

I had a bit of a run in with an obstacle while on a route and it popped off the wheel arch that goes over on to the front bumber. So it is the tiny part of the arch which is 30cm long at the most. Not colour coded or anything fancy. I fortunatly managed to fix it myself but did a call to Nissan anyway just to find out what the replacement cost would be. R3100 excl. :rolling:
My left rear bumper lights was sitting a bit loose due to wear and tear on the clips that holds it in the bumper. Basically consists out of 2 parts. The Light and the frame that holds the light which in turn pops into the bumper. Now the light (Indicator and brake) which looks like something you might find on a trailer will set you back R2400 Excl. The little plastic frame that houses the light. R500 excl. You can find the same brake lights on AU e-bay for R500.........for both. I obviously opted to skillfully fix the loose fitting light myself using cable ties which is working perfectly fine untill I fit a steel bumper with cheaper trailer lights.

I am a bit scared finding out what the entire front bumper costs if just the piece of wheel arch on top of it costs R3000. Just between left and right arch portions of the bumper you are allready 6k down

:oldtimer: What I have learned, is that if it is a mechanical part, then take it off and go to Midas, the one in Ontdekkers near to Brixton is verry good with finding alternative parts. By baby Patrol as I call it is an import, so you can immagine how difficult it is to find breakshoes, aircleaners, oil filters ctc. We have now got it all sorted out at Midas as we take the part in and get exactly the same thing for a fraction of the part price that we were quoted by Nissan dealer. My Patrol has had camadge to the plastic mud flaps and step. I have removed and dont want on. The back bumper is a big problem on the Patrols, with the lights falling out. Ben the guy that does the work on my Nissans, will within the next week or two build me a back bumper and a replacement bumper for the front, proper rocksliders and a small roofrack for the top, behind the sunroof. But yes the parts are a problem and tha Aussies are the ones to get it from. :blonde:

Morning Gentlemen,
Thanks for rekindling this never ending saga about spares etc., and in relation to our previous correspondence as well, we must carry on communicating, and learn from the experiences of others, (e.g. I did not know about Midas' alternatives), and also our contacts (some outlet in France, if I can recollect), but Oz must surely be the better of them all?
Who and where we can contact now needs to be registered, so that we can resource, and the only way in which the stealers will learn, is to close off the support - remember the days when Mercedes Benz cut all their spares costs, (across the board by 25%) and standardized their pricing, and I understand even Renault (Nissan related?) are now reviewing their costs? (maybe a RSA initiative?)
The point is that there is always a way - it is up to us as owners to find it!
Regards, Chris.

Had a look on EBAY in Aus and I got the following:

Rear brake light for Aus $ 40. At R8.00 to Aus $ that is about R 320.

Sway Bar SET!!!!!!!!!! for !@#$%^&* sakes for Aus $ 50. About R 400. Both plus postage.

So I am no mathematician but on the sway bar that is a 500% profit, excluding the postage.

I have a niece in Australia, that I am seriously going to reconnect with.

U got that right Tinus, And this is what gets my BP rising.... I don't mind too much if I can walk in a get it off the shelf, but to have to wait 4-6 weeks and then get screwed in the process.... just not on. I feel if agents...Not only Nissan SA but all the others as well, played fair, if they didn't have stock and had to order from Japan and charged a shipping fee + 10-15% mark up it would be fine, but no we just get a free jar of vaseline with every purchase.

When I had my V6 3.0L Sani I couldn't believe what they wanted for front lockers... over R4K for One! Bought two in Jhb for under R2500.

I think that isn't only in ZA but also in other countries but that's good for us!! Many times we can supply the original or aftermarket ones.
The problem that we're are working on is the delivery cost but you might one to order together to share the cost!
Feel free to contact me even if you don't see the parts at the website, always if you have with OEM part number.
We're looking if we can add the 4.5 and 4.8 to our catalogue soon
