Re: Spare wheel cover limit?
I was at BG Autofit on Tuesday with Boezman - and had a look at the amazing things Ben & team have in CANVAS .. I am sure they can do sparewheel covers for any size of wheel -- you want me to check with Ben ??

Re: Spare wheel cover limit?
Ok fine, but I like the cover. Also secures the sparewheel? Wanted to customize it so my vehicle signature is on. So when I get the 285 I will not be able to use the original cover?

Re: Spare wheel cover limit?
If I stick to a 275 would it make any difference to my vehicle performance?

Re: Spare wheel cover limit?
Yes. It will make you get stuck more often.
The patrol, and particularly the 4.8, has relatively large diffs, and therefore ground clearance is similar to most bakkies. Most times when you get stuck, it's because you run out of clearance. Furthermore, the extra diameter and width add extra flotation, which means that you don't sink into sand or mud as much.
If you want to use it on the road only, small tires will give you better fuel consumption and better acceleration, but not massively so.

Re: Spare wheel cover limit?
Thank you Peter,
Now that is good advice. Looks like I will have to go the bigger tyre when it is time to replace mine!
If I want a hard cover tyre protector at the back and not the canvas replacements? Is there a local place that does custom ones or not?
Thanks

Re: Spare wheel cover limit?
There is a lady in Rooihuiskraal that effectively made Tinus a very nice cover for his spare at a decent price. I am sure he will be able to give you her contacts.
I also know of a lady here in Kempton who would be quite able and willing to undertake such, I can send you her details if you want.
If you don't want "custom", most of the people who make seat covers also do spare wheel covers.
Just one recommendation: if you intend using your vehicle for overlanding, try and get one that has space for a rubbish bag. This is in my opinion the best place to put your rubbish. It doesn't stink up the car, or take up usable space, or get ripped to shreds by branches or the wind. I don't think it's a suitable place for a braai grid, as it will get horribly dusty there.
