EGT Gauge

Post by Grootseun »

I would not go for engine cut functionality in such a devise. My reasons are the following:
  • Why is it required? Surely you can hear an audible alarm, check the gauges and take appropriate action?
  • I really don't like to interfere with factory wiring looms, because this is just inviting unreliability.
  • There may be times (such as when misjudging an overtaking maneuver) where you would rather push the EGTs a little high, but be safe otherwise. Having the motor cut automatically would then be the last thing one would want.

Tinus I agree with Gerrit, engine cut is dangerous. The only way I would consider engine cut is if you have two different set-points, so that cut only occurs say 15-20% higher than audible alarm.

But Driko you don't want to spend your life staring at a row of gauges, this doesn't add anything to your safety. An audible alarm warning you of an impending situation is much better. When the Madman alarms, it will also show you which parameter the alarm is for, so you can decide what to do about it.

The world is full of people who seized their engines or cracked their heads because they never noticed the gauge was in the red.
