... as da weer ietsie is, gan heel ek vi Lobo

Ek stem!

Dit was great!!!

So, horses for courses - soos G-man se, as jy verbruik soek koop 'n Tdi, maar jy gaan nie ver kom offroad nie!

Must say I agree with all - not sure what is all this issues with petrol useage.

If you bought a Patrol and thought you are getting economy in the same deal then you have bought wrong. In fact if you are a serious 4x4'er and overlander and you want economy you are in the wrong game - get out of it!!!

Diesel or Petrol - if you use it what you bought it for it is heavy......

I average town driving 6 km/l. Overlanding heavily loaded my car drops to about 5km/l. Hell with my Lesotho / Transkei trip in Dec 2010 there was even one tank that dropped to 2,84km/l - for a diesel that was a shocker but hell what can you do!!

Although I am sure that my huge 305 16" tyres also plays a role in my comsumption......

Fortunately - and I am most probably very priviliged in this sense - I don't use my Patrol on a day to day basis but have a little run aound day to day commuter.

Around town I average ~7.7km/l (13l/100km's) with my 33' M/T's on and 8-ishkm/l (~12l/100km's) with my 32' A/T's. On the open road fully loaded and 33' M/T's I get ~7km/l (14l/100km's) .....I don't think that's bad for such a huge vehicle!Ross gets something similar with his TD42 Turbo engine too....

I am finding this quite interesting!

My car seems to be one of the few that gets better consumption on trips than around town. I get around 4.8km/l in town, even with considerable freeway driving between PTA and Kempton, but on the soft sandy tracks of the Central Kalahari and a heavily loaded car and roofrack (no trailer though) I got it down to very nearly 6km/l.

I can only assume a lot of it is the GQ's bad earodynamics, compounded by the roof rack.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Geez...that's a pretty big difference!

If your normal town driving consists of short distances in heavy traffic then you will have bad consumption...hell...my wife's 1.4l Getz averages just under 10km/l because her daily commute is in rush hour and over only 12km's each way!
