I want to replace the precomps on my 4.2 diesel. They are a loose insert in the head and very easy to remove or fit.No enjineering required. The Agents of course where off course.Their first Quote were R9700.00 for 6.I told them,it is madness.I was shocked and phoned them them the next day to tell them they were crazy. They phoned me back a half day later, and said I can have it for R5000.00.I turned them down.I will buy a new head with precoms for R16000 and not pay the R5000.
I can not get them aftermarket, and want to make my own.
I need your Help please.
GERRIT,you might put me on the right way.
How or where can I test the old precoms, for what material they are made of.A spark test or so.By the looks of them,I can cut with a hacksaw on the back of them with ease. One or two strokes leave a mark. The cylinder side or faceing the piston, have a coating. The hacksaw also leave a mark but after a couple off cuts.
The head are a cast iron ,the precoms also look like a cast of some iron.Maybe cast steel ? By the looks of it,I can make it on a lathe, and send for hardening.
What worry me is the growth of the precomp when hot,and for cracks or brake up and damage the enjine/pistons.
The long and the short,am I looking for trouble to make my own?
Your input will be mutch appreciated.

To be honest,if the agents were cheep,I do not want it.My 4.2 were a non turbo. It has one now and I want to beter the burning on the inside of the enjine. The hole in the precomp must get bigger for better swirl in and out the precomp.
Thanks again
