If the thermostat has been completely removed, there is a pretty good chance the waterpump has been cavitating and is now shot...

It it has only been modified so that it can't close, then the above does not apply.
Thank you Peter. I will arrange to get them both replaced and engine serviced too.

Re: Nissan Thermostat

I'd replace the rad cap first off with the correct temp cap, and definitively concider that it could be that the radiator is blocked up with the rusty bits and efficiency is down to nothing. I would do a good clean out of the whole cooling system first, maybe at a place like Silvertons and do the f...

Re: Waterpump

Doubt it .... but definitively time for a good flush of the entire cooling system and replacement of the antifreeze..... BUT PLEASE USE QUALITY ANTIFREEZE, and NOT the cheap stuff. Nope, looks good.
The old one is a non Nissan thermostat
I have completely removed mine. Will this cause any major problems? If so where is best (cheapest) place to get a new one?

Re: Waterpump

Note sure why you opted to pull the old one - now that you have done so best is to put a new one back. My 2000 Patrollie has now done 806000 km yes 806 thousand - still the original water pump.... That is pretty amazing! Mine has done 380000 and I noticed recently that my water has gone brown in th...
