Hub Lock Bolts constantly coming undone.
I have a 1980 C200 diff in the front of the Sani, and have now three times found one of my Hub Locks bolts coming undone. One bolt already gone AWOL the last time it did about 3 months ago. I estimate about 200km of gravel where the Hubs were not even engaged, and a maximum of about 40-50km 4wd in soft sand in low range. I just got back from a little trip to town with about 25km gravel and 25km tar, and as I was unpacking the car, I see grease all over the left front wheel again. All the bolts are loose again and the Hub is flopping about, and has probably gobbled up a bunch of sand and dust of the sand/gravel road.
I don't really like using Locktite, but this seems to be my next option in search of a solution. I want to know why it's doing this in the first place. Can one of the engineers maybe help with an explanation?
While I am on the subject, does anybody know where I can get a repalcement bolt for the one that is lost?

Are you torquing them correctly and is there a spigot or something to keep it centralised? On the Y60 and Y61's there is a short little tubular locating ring that sits across the joint between the hub and the part it bolts onto, not sure if the C200 has something similar?
I would use loctite on bolts like this on principle though. It not only stops stuff rattling out but also seals the thread thus preventing rust.
Any decent bolt and nut shop should have suitable cap-screws.

Christo (Grips) also had some great info for me on the Community Forum. Seems that hub lock is aftermarket, and not original Nissan Safari.
I he asked me about the gasket, which I have never seen on the original Sani or this axle, so I did not even know it needed one. And no, I don't recall this Hub having a locating pin anywhere.
I will be jacking it up and checking wheel bearings and Kingpin bearings as they think there may be another route cause of this. I will clean this lot out tomorrow if weather permits, and bash it back together with Loctite for now. I will have to source and order new studs once I have checked thread depth in the Hubs. I want to make sure the bolts are long enough for the holes. I'll also find some Nord Lock washers, as I think they would be great for this job.

Bush fix is all I could put together for now. Missing bolt replaced with a slightly longer bolt. Anything longer runs out of thread in the bottom of the hole. I had nothing else to use but the old spring washers, and slapped each bolt with Loctite. I did check for play on Wheel bearings and Kingpin, just in case it could be causing a problem. They are both fine on both sides.
I'll just be watching this hub to see if the problem persists.

For what it's worth, checked both my Patrols today.....all tight. The have lock washers........

Evidently not the right washer for the job. But thats what was on it and what was on my previous setup, and what I have seen on everybody elses, so that is what I put back onto mine for now.
I like the Nordlock washers and I will look into them if the problem persists on this Hub if the Loctite does not hold it.

A little update... Every two to three weeks I have been checking these bolts. Hardly done 1000km since the last post, and all the driving has been gravel road to do Honey Sucker duty. I thought I had the problem sorted and last weekend when my reminder went off to check it, I thought stuffit, it's been fine for over two months. Today I manage to get stuck behind some dunes on the beach, and as I am deflating, I see that one bolt is half way out, and the hub is hanging weird. Murphy made sure I had not tools with me on the outing, and I could only tighten it all up by hand, and push through to solid ground. Checked it again about 5km down the road as I took to the 10 km of gravel road to the farm.
Seems Locktite did not do the job. I will see if I can get some proper washers next time I get to Vredenburg. Totally forgot when I was at BMG just last week to get a seal for steering box. Drove 70km to go pick up an item of R8,50, and forgot to ask about the washers. Typical.
