Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Was inspecting why the engine refs dropped when aircon is engaged.
The little piston thingy does not push out when aircon gets switched on.

So while having my head in the engine bay i noticed a pssst sound coming from the area between the firewall and the airfilter/carburetor.
Noticed this with aircon off and on, so not sure if it is relating to the aircon on/engin refs dropping

What could cause this sound? Did briefly check the hoses but could not see anything suspect...

Fanus, dit moet een van die vacuum hoses wees.

Daar is 'n hele spul van hulle in daardie omgewing.
Die twee probleme is heel moontlik een. In jou eerste foto kan mens die solenoid sien wat die vacuum reguleer vir daardie silindertjie wat die revs moet opjaag as jy die air con aansit. Hy kruip.weg agter die air con pypie (die Aluminium pypie) wat agter die groot vacuum hoses vir die brake en clutch boosters. Check sy pypies. Een kom na hom toe van die intake manifold af, die ander gaan van hom af tot by daardie actuatortjie op die carb.

Maar check maar al die vacuum pypies. Probleme daar kan jou brandstofverbruik ook beinvloed.

HIerdie pypie hou net so paar weke (of paar maande), dan "bars" hy weer. Dan sny ek stukkende stukkie af, druk hom terug, dan is hy weer goed vir nog so paar maande... maar die pypie word al hoe korter..

Het by so paar parte winkels om gegaan in Nelspruit maar kon nog nie die spesifieke spec pypie kry nie...

Ja, dit is 'n probleem.
Die pyp wat ek gekry het wat die langste gehou het was 'n deurskynende pypie wat ek by 'n gewone hardewarewinkel gekry het. Was bietjie te klein en ek het nogal gesukkel om dit op te sit. Het 'n staal pen gemaak wat taper en die pypi alternatiewelik in kookwater gedruk, dan die staal pen bietjie diper ingedruk tot hy uiteindelik gepas het.

Die een wat jy heeltyd korter sny is klaar moeg oor sy hele lengte.
As die hele pyp nuut is, sal dit langer hou.

Ek het ook gewone deurskynende pypie self opgesit op 'n stadium

Midas sells the right pipe.
It's fuel pipe. It looks like it has braid imbedded in it to handle pressure/vacuum, so not just generic rubber pipe. Label says "Multi Fuel Gates Automaster Carburant Universal" pipe. Midas stocked it in two sizes.
I used 3.2mm for my vacuum lines. I also have 5mm here but can't remember what I used it for on the patrol (4.8GRX)
I remember being sceptical when buying because the sizes they offered me didn't match the dimensions I measured with my vernier but the 3.2 mm turned out to be a nice tight fit.

And the pipe deteriorates over the years, no use just cutting a piece off each time. They look ok till you start handling them and then they self-destruct.
You must replace it completely. And the other vacuum pipes under your bonnet are probably also buggered if you examine closely.

it's an extremely common problem on the tb42

you can also try go faster shops / turbo shops, many turbo setups use the 3mm and 5 mm vacuum/pressure pipes

And here I was thinking Fanus had a hidden dump valve there somewhere
