Please can someone indicate what areas should be lubricated when servicing a Patrol 4.8, and if possible what grease to use.

Many thanks Rob

There should be 10 grease nipples under the car Rob.
Three in each prop-shaft, and four on the steering (one per tie rod end).

I think they all use Lithium soap-based grease (IE normal multi-purpose grease).

If im not mistaken most GU's have sealed tie rod ends. So you may only find zerk nipples on the prop shafts.

If you running aftermarket front end gear then thats a different story.

How many grease nipples on the GQ?
I only see 2 per prop shaft.

Same as on the GU. Three on each prop shaft (one inside each U-joint and one on the spline/slip joint.

There may or may not be nipples on the four tie rod ends.

I could only find one on each slip joint and one on each u-joint.
(4 in total - on both prop shafts I find only one nipple, both in u-joint closest to slip joint.
In u-joint furthers from slip joint, on both prop shafts, I cannot see a nipple).

No nipples on the tie rod ends.

Interesting.
On mine there are most definitely nipples in all the U-joints.

I don't think it's possible to feed a U-joint grease from the shaft either. At least not without significantly weakening it.
Did somebody perhaps remove the grease nipples and fit a plug instead? Although I can't think of a good reason to do so?

I would spend some time and effort on this if I were you. A U-joint breakage can under certain circumstances be extremely dangerous! Just ask the guys who saw the U-joint breakage on Rust de Winter's Hilux on the first forum trip there (I think it was 2011).
