Tb45 Distributor

Hi All

As my 4.5 went over the 316 000km mark yesterday and from what I have heard and read the distributor on the 4.5 has the tendency to give problems from around 300 000km, I would just what to find out what the way forward is.

To just replace it when it fails or is the a upgrade of some sort that can be done?

I do have a ping when under load at about 3000rpm and that happens everytime I go over Van Reenens pass. Otherwise there is no major issues to indicate that the distributor has reached the end of its life.

Can't wait for your inputs

Thanks alot

I also thought about it, but didn't know if it is possible. Is that a big story and what would all need to be done. Who will be able to do it?

You can have the shaft etc reconditioned but unfortunately the coil pack is tired and no replacement available in SA.
Last time I checked replacement distributor was over R 14 k from Nissan.
There is a coil pack replacement available from Auto Parts Supply in Australia for 90 Aussie dollars but they do not ship to SA.
What I have never investigated and may be worth looking at is Spitronics or similar. I am however not a fan of aftermarket electronics but it seems to be improving.

Thanks all for you inputs.

So basically it is either recon, replace or go with aftermarket management.

I am scared to go with the aftermarket management but will look into it.
