My 2005 3.0Di GL Story

Aangesien ons nou in "Lockdown" is en daar somtyds bietjie vrye tyd beskikbaar is, is dit seker 'n goeie tyd om met julle my storie te deel.

Back in January 2019 I had an itch to buy another Patrol, yes a 3.0Di, and I took the plunge to go into the dark side of the grenade world of Patrols.

What a good looking Patrol, and the salesman convinced me that the motor was in tip top shape, although it has been overhauled, it pulled like a train for a 3.0 and the ride was just awesome.

Driving it down from Midrand to Bathurst I felt like the king of the road! :woo:

Back it was time to look at things closer and add the necessary gauges.

In went all the gauges. Installing the EGT probe, discovered that the EGR was already taken out on the exhaust side, decided to make a flange that will fit into the exhaust manifold for the probe rather than to drill a hole, looked pretty good.

I bought all at Autostyle, but I would rather recommend to go Madman.

Then one morning, my wife and I was on our way to East London airport to catch a plane for a wedding in Rustenburg. Just before the airport one big bang, every thing on the gauges was normal no sign of changes or abnormal ready before the bang........ I was fearing the dreadful hand grenade, looking at the gauges again no boost  . Ok, so no time to waste as we need to catch the plane, parked the Patrol and off we go.

After the weekend, got back and discovered that the boost pipe closest to the firewall had burst  , thank goodness it did not grenade...

A month or two later after replacing the burst boost pipe, a whistle like sound started from the engine and only got worse, so finally decided to take it my mechanic to investigate. So we discovered that there was a exhaust manifold leak. As the turbo needed to come off, I decided to send it in for a check and repair if needed. Manifold got skimmed and the turbo overhauled. Everything put together again and while mechanic took it for a test drive the turbo packed up...... :surprised:  Took it of again and send back to supplier. Eventually repaired and installed again everything was good again. Now it was quiet and running smoothly.

Put some 33" tires on and off we went for a road trip to Baviaans, celebrating my wife's birthday.

Looks good !!!

Only suggestion would be to get some kind of ridge on the water temp probe steel tube you made up so that the radiator hose clamp cannot pop off over the ridge on both sides. I would hate to see a water pipe pop off in the middle of nowhere.
