Caster Correction Bushes & Kit

Hi Fellow Patrollers,

Wishing you all a very great 2020.

Please help me: The casters on my front axle is out. It's been out since fitting a new Tough Dog suspension in 2016. In the meantime, I'm running down my left-front tyre.

Just a side query if someone perhaps knows: my damn steering-wheel is off-center and neither the tyre fitment centre nor Nissan Kimberley have an idea to fix it. I have OCD and it annoys me. Please advise if you know how to address this issue.

I am pretty much done with Nissan Kimberley. I have repeated experiences regarding negligence with them. Last round they exchanged my rear brake bulbs and forgot to screw the lights back into the fittings. Last year they somehow broke the crank-gasket seal and sent me on holiday leaking oil rapidly. My cousin and myself had to remove the engine cover last week in the wilderness to tighten the radiator and turbo hosing as it was sweating oil. All the clamps were loose, shortly after having the car serviced at Nissan Kimberley. Prior to that they broke my winch control box. Is there a Patrol expert in Gauteng I can perhaps take my Patrol to to give me a proper review of the vehicle?

Thanks

Johann

Johann, how much lift do you have?

If your lift is 4" or less, you can get caster correction bushes from Terrain Tamer. Contact Marino 4x4 on this forum.

If your lift is 3" or more, i personally would prefer drop-boxes rather than bushes.

As for getting the steering wheel straight, your lamented mechanic is not the problem. There is no built-in adjustment for this. The only way to fix it is by replacing the drag link with an adjustable one.

Hi Johan

As Peter mentioned, Terrain tamer Bloemfontein (Marinus) have a top quality kit. Correct castor also makes a big difference in the steering feel at higher speeds ( or that was my experience).

Hi Peter. I have a 50mm lift on the Patrol. I specifically didn't opt for the extreme lift suspension that exceeds 50mm as I was told that would affect the caster.

I will contact Marinus. Thank You both for the suggestion.

Regards

Johann

For someone to service the vehicle in Gauteng you have Pathfinder (GTec) or Michael (SoJo). Both are very highly recommended.
