I have had my New Patrol Y 62 ( ex Nissan Demo) for 4 weeks and my eye has been on the fuel gauge most of the time
I set it on cruise control at 120 kph on a Capetown to Saldanha trip and registered 12.8 lt/100k and coming back with the southeastern in my face it registered 13.5
Town driving is 20 lt/100 k , I am learning all the time on how to reduce it but moving 2.7 tons in the stop/start traffic is not easy
For the rest is a mean machine
This week the Frontunner roof rack is coming on , just got the rails, the rack is from the old y61
Tires and rims is next when the cash flow improves

Sorry to be a bit blunt, but surely if you are that worried about consumption you should not be adding stuff?
To be honest though, those consumption figures would leave me smiling very widely indeed. I don't get anywhere close to those figures.

I don't have (nor want actually) a Y62. My 4.5 Y60 gives me around 3.9km/l average...
Pretty extensive mods, with more to come.

In Austrlalia, there seems to be an uptick in the use of the Y62 as a challanger to the LC200 in obstacle driving.
It is kicking the 200s butt in most obstacles.

What you lose in fuel consumption you make up in the lack vehicle finance payments.
As much as I'd love to try out the Y62, I can go on a very long drive for the finance costs of the Y62. I'll wait for a nice pre loved one for a few years. In the mean time, my Y61 is taking shape, Which reminds me, Piet, we need to talk...

Congratulations on your Y62.
Most of us use our Patrols for over landing, that being said, 12.8/100 is a descent figure. I hear the new V8 is very good in fuel consumption. I drive a 4.8 and I get an average of 5.5 tops.
As Peter said, if you are worried about fuel consumption, don't add stuff, that roof rack can hit on your consumption too.
Have you towed with it yet?

It's always hard to tell on a video, but while that obstacle obviously carries a serious risk of body damage, I don't think it's that hard to get up?
And of course, traction control has for several years now been good enough to surpass any vehicle not fitted with lockers in both axles (and in some cases even that).
20 odd years ago, the double-live-axle were demonstrably better at tough obstacles than the "others". In those days nobody had traction control and even single lockers were pretty rare. Aftermarket lockers were also pretty scarce.
Now matters are far less clear-cut. If you look at the Australian 4WD Action videos, Graham Cahil takes his Isuzu pretty much everywhere the other guys go, but what I am not sure of is the long-term cost. He's on his third D-Max. Sure, every make of car they've had on the show regularly has broken, but most everybody else who's on regularly is still driving the same car. Of course, it could be that somebody is giving him bakkies for free?
I'm not even saying that a Y62 won't out-last a Y60/Y61, but I will be quite surprised if it does.
Make no mistake, I am not saying the Y62 is not a good 4x4. And as a touring car, it will probably be far superior to the Y61. Much more power, more economical if driven sensibly, more comfortable I'm sure and probably requiring less skill from the operator. Even as an obstacle-course car, I believe it is probably superior to a standard Y61.
And yet, somehow, it doesn't interest me at all. Sorry.
