Odometer display going wonky

Guys..... I need some help please.

For a few months now my odometer display has a mind of its own. Some days it works fine, and other days it only displays some of the numbers or parts of the numbers and words. If I fiddle with the adjustment stick that flicks between ODO / TRIP A / TRIP B, then most times it comes right and all is well for a few hours.

See here that word "TRIP" is not displayed and all the numbers are not all "lit up"

Can anyone help me with what is going on, and how to resolve this problem. I am thinking it is a dry solder joint..... but where??

Possibly corrosion on the tracks of the cluster...

Hmmmm....ok.... So I assume I need to get that cluster out to be able to do anything :surprised:

Would it be just a matter of touching the solder joints with a soldering iron to get the joints to "refresh" themselves?

Cedric,

This looks more like a dry joint. But may have been caused by corroded tracks, as pointed out by Anthony. Pull the cluster, and resolder, and it should be fine. I hope.

Keep us posted.

Edit: I mean, the symptoms are dry joint. The reason for that might be the corrosion of the tracks.

Thanks Ian, yeah for a few seconds there I thought it was a dry old wacky weed kind of joint you were talking about....hahahahahaha

Maybe on the weekend I'll get a chance to pull the cluster out and give it a looking over
