TD42 waterpump gasket

It seems like my water pump has decided to pack up. I have a spare water pump, but no gasket. Now my question.... can I use the good school "paper gasket" that one cuts out from a sheet one gets at the spares shop, which is affordable, or is it better to get an original from the stealers for a gazillion times the price ( not that I've checked the price with them as I know it will be ridiculous )
The only other irritation I have is that I recently, as in last weekend refitted the radiator ans I had developed a small leak and had Silvertons strip and re-vamp my complete radiator, and just put in 6L of coolant/antifreeze ..... not cheap .... so now I'll have to drain it all out I guess to replace the pump.

If I recall when I rebuilt the motor 151 000 km ago, the gasket was a weird type of graphite powder gasket. not sure if it was paper that was impregnated with a graphite powder or something. I doubt any kind of gasket making sealer would stick to the surface of the gasket itself. but that was about 7 years ago when I rebuilt the motor, so my memory of it is a little faded.

I am sure a valemoid/flexoid gasket in combination with a good silicon sealant will work perfectly.

Fantastic.... Thanks Peter. I figured as much as that stuff has been used for yonky donk years and always seemed to work just fine before.

Cedric, yes a normal valemoid will be fine. The aftermarket gasket sets only have valemoid gaskits.
I prefer giving those ones a very very thin layer of gaskit maker on both sides to make sure they dont leak as they are not really as good as the Nissan graphite ones, but do the job.
Just catch up and reuse your antifreeze...... its just too expensive to discart

haha....yeah, I'm going to try catch as much and possible, and then I think I'll try filter it to ensure there are no big bits of grit when i refill.
Will I need to drain it completely? if I disconnect the bottom hose where it connects to the thermostat housing, will that drop the level enough to remove the waterpump? or do I have to open up the drain plug on the block.
Anyone know what Nissan charges for a new water pump? I think I will buy another one to keep as a spare, as my spare that I currently have is a spare that came with the Iron Maiden when i bought her.

I see there is different thicknesses of Valemoid. I think its a +/- 1.4mm and a 1.8mm or something like that. I assume that the thinner one is the better option?
