yes, not set automatically.
Option 1. If you reply, click the checkbox Notify me....
Option 2. If it's a topic you're vieweing, click Subscribe Topic.

Or change the default. Go to:
User Control Panel, Board Preferences, Edit Posting Defaults, and set Notify Me On Replies by Default to Yes.
