Can i fit 285/75 16 mud terrains on my bakkie. how will it affect the performance

I think I might work ,you must just check clearences in wheel arches

33" muddies should fit, but be aware that this does have a small impact on the performance, which in turn affects the EGT's, which in turn can make something go bang!!

Fit a Madman or similar type monitor to that motor and you will have many years of pleasure in it!!

Tinus will probably jump in and tell you, as he is now a petrolhead convert to diesel power, and drives a Pick up. Its a 4.2 D turbo, but the wheel issue should be same.

On my pickup, which is a 4.2, the rear track is quite narrow. I had to fit spacers at the back to prevent the wheels from rubbing on the chassis when doing cros axles. (and this is with 255/85r16's on 6.5jj patrol steelies).
AFAIK the 3l pickup's rear track is the same width as the front, so wider than the 4.2's rear track. I am not sure what wheels you are using. the wheel offset would also play a role. There is enough space in the arches for 285's.
Apart from the price difference, I opted for 255/85r16's because of them having slightly less impact on performance compared to the 285's...

33 285 75 16 are the way forward ....what rims have you got

The patrol is currently at the dealership getting all his extras fitted. i hope to have it on Monday, will post some pics of it then.
I have standard issue rims on it but have a pair of 16" a line mags that most probably will go on with the muds.

What tyre brand do you recommend? been through a whole lot of them and found that the BF" work best on our terrain but they are $$$

Andre you must first decide what your tyre requirements are and what your going to do with your Patrol then you can decide what tyre to buy

I LOVE the Kumho KL71 tyres. On my Iron Maiden they were the best gripping tyres on wet tar and even stickier on dry tar. On sand and mud, they were exceptional !!
I then got a secondhand set of Maxxi Bighorns, also pretty decent, but dont grip as well as the Kumho's, but nothing will in my opinion.
I am currently looking at fitting the Kumho AT51, as I spend more time on tar than on sand and mud, but may look into the ML51 dependent on price

I am not a fan of Bridgestone ( I only had the AT Duellers on, but they didn't work for a 3 ton Patrol station wagon in my opinion )
I have never owned BF's but I've heard that they are not great in wet weather, due to the harder compound. I prefer softer tyre with better stopping power.

Ok now EGT's .... Exhaust Gas Temperature. This is where I believe that ALL manufactures should do this as a standard. It doesn't matter what make of vehicle it is, as this happens with the Ford Rangrers and VW Amaroks etc etc etc.

They blow up !! Now these temps can hit 700 deg C super quick, and you don't want to see those kinds of temps. An EGT guage is basically a probe that gets fitte on the exhaust manifold before or after the turbo ( before the turbo is the better option ). This is a great fail safe to prevent the destruction of the engine.

There are a few other mods that can be done that will only benefit the motor ( check with the dealer if its a new vehicle ). One important mod is the EGR removal (Exhaust Gas Reticulation). The ZD30 guys will jump in and assist you with that info I'm sure
