Rear diff oil leak

Gents

So Im doing some maintenance on my Patrol. There was a oil leak/sweat around the area where the diff bolts onto the diff housing with those 11x 8mm bolts.

So it was a good opertunity to inspect the diff after 272,000km as well.
I pulled it yesterday and it still lokes as good as new, but my problem now is the gasket between the diff and housing is damaged so here is my question.

1. Do I wait untill next week and get a gasket fron the dealers?
2. Do I make my own with valimoid?
3. Do I just use gasket maker and seal it with sealer only?

So phoned the dealers this morning........ its going to take 21 working days to get a gasket

So its leaves me with option 2 and 3 left

Also watching this thread.

I have a C200 front diff and H260 that both have leaks. Also wondered if valimoid would work to make new gaskets.

I would think so.

I would think that the valimoid with a smear of Sika Flex would be ok. would definitely NOT use any old silicone sealer !!

Spoke to some gerabox/diff places and many of them recon gasket maker is fine.....no nead for a paper gasket.

Im sticking it back tomorrow with sealer only, so lets see how it turns out. I do still have a bit of the red Nissan sealer so it should do the job

I had this same issue with a rear diff & transfer case.

It was a (jeep) Dana 44 rear end 4.11 gears & a (jeep)231 transfer attached to a lexus V8 converted vehicle.

So loads more strain & heat on the parts than standard.

I ended up using Wurth gasketmaker & had no issues for over 2yrs before I sold it.

I have no idea if the gasket provides necessary extra clearance, although I doubt this.

My only advice if going this route is to the prep/clean the surfaces very very well & dont be in a hurry to put it back together or run it until it has cured properly.

:salute:

I replaced the diff yesterday using the red Nissan gasket maker only. So wee will see if it leaks very soon.

I very much doubt if the thickness of the gasket plays any role

I have to dismantle my rear diff after river trip. The diff lock servo got flattend by a rock so I have to replace that servo now and it only comes off from the inside
