I discovered two stripped front studs on my 4.5.
They are about R60-R80 each at Nissan. (waiting for quote).
Does anyone have the specifications for these studs, in case I want to buy them somewhere else? All I know is that it is m12 x 1.25.(if I am not mistaking).
Or is it best to just get the Genuine Nissan studs?
How difficult is it to replace them on a 4.5 GU? Do you need to remove calipers / brakes, etc. or just unbolt hub from rotor?
Do you just hit the stud out with a hammer? (and hammer them back in).

HELLO FANUS .
For your front studs , you can knock them out with a hammer . You do need to remove the wheel though . Turn your hub to a point where the stud will clear the caliper and bracket when you knock it out . Before knocking OR pulling in the new stud , wiggle the stud in and try to feel if the "splines" have engauged before pulling or hammering . (if you don't , the stud cuts new "splines" making it harder to pull in or hammer). Don't forget to apply some oil on the "splines" and thread if you are going to pull them in with the rim on the hub . With your model , you may be able to punch out the old studs without taking the wheel off the hub . A 4lb hammer will save you lots of hammering time ! ! NEVER drive without missing wheel nuts , it causes mag rims to crack around the centre hub of the rim when driven for extended periods ! Hey , look somebody's wheel is passing us ! OOPS , that's our wheel -----CRASH ! ! !

Ok, I have come this far. But now I am stuck.
How do I remove the front part of the wheel that hosts the studs (hub? not sure of correct terminology).
Do I have to take the whole wheel of ? after removing caliper/bracket etc. Is this neccesary?
Should the front part be able to come off now, after all the bolts have been removed. It still feels pretty stuck though.
Or must I give it some hammer to loosen it up?
There is not enough space for the studs to come out the way it is now, did try.
Scared I am going to break something....

Het op 'n ander thread gelees dat 'n Hardbody se wiel studs bet so goed werk in 'n Patrol en is blykbaar heelwat goedkoper. Kan iemand dit bevestig?
Sal 'n landcruiser se studs in 'n patrol pas. Dink dis 'n 1.5 thread, Patrol gebruik 1.25. Maar ek moet in elkgeval nuwe wheel nuts koop... miskien is dit goedkoper?

Fanus klop een uit ga na nut en bolt mense toe en koop nuwes gaan baie goedkoper wees

Ek gaan dit doen. Maar sukkel my gat af om die goed uit te kry. Het een kort af gesny met die grinder om dit uit te kry... Sal 'n mechanic kry om hulle te ruil vir my.

The nice thing about using Cruiser nuts is that the 1.5 thread is pretty much a standard thread as far as I know. but if you do go that route then I would get longer studs to get more thread into the wheel nut. The finer thread on the Patrol stud gives you more thread ratio to the length, so will be stronger.
If you are using the spacers and Cruiser studs. then get studs that are at least 6mm longer than the std Patrol studs.

I bit the bullet and bought from Ni$$an.
Drove all the way out to a nuts/bolts/fasteners shop in nelspruit, they did not have the correct size.
Then over to tiger wheel, did not have wheel nuts. But can order and according to sales guy will take a few months to get.
Then stopped at a scrap yard, no luck.
I wanted to replace all the studs, but at R78 a piece only bought 6. Will put 3 new ones at each side.
Same with the wheel nuts, wanted to get 6, but at R169 a peace , only took three...

What do you guys think of this method to create some space to remove/replace the studs?
1:30 minutes - 5:00 minutes. Wonder if it would be necessary to remove the brake/calipers for this to work. referring here to hitting the rotor/disc with a plankie to seperate it from the hub...

Nie die video gekyk nie (goedkoop data is op), maar jy behoort die disk so 5-10mm agtertoe te kan skuif as jy die caliper afgehaal het.
