Is this Winch mount any good?

Hi folks, I would like your opinion on the attached Winch mount that is up for sale here. This is available through a known offroad contact, used to be a LR fan, but has now seen the light and drives a Y61.

Anyhow he is selling this winch mount, it is unusal from most other mounts I have seen to be fitted to the chassis rails on a alloy bull bar with winch mount or the stock plastic bumper which is what I would do, as we have no need for bullbars here.

The price is fairly low, and probably the same as having one fabricated, I have option to buy an expensive winch cradle made in Portugal, or buy a used winch and factory Nissan winch cradle from a scrap yard, only issue is that the winch is a Warn M8000, therefore perhaps just a tad under for the patrols weight.

Not sure about the winch plate... but don't be put off by the M8000, its a great winch. I been using one for 20 years on patrols and for pulling my 2 ton boat back on trailer.
I did just buy a new one in fact. I also added the 6hp motor from the Warn 9500i (buy on ebay) - and if you then do a calc using the new ones power, the winch is actually pulling 12tons. I also added a plasma rope --- will never use cable again!

Van Hack,
Can not picture the fixture points on the Patrol where this plate would mount to but in my humble opinion the mounting points on the plate look a little light for the job with not enough triangular load distribution.
Maybe some of the more experienced guys will also comment.
All the best.

I agree with Riaan. Can't quite figure where this mounts, but if it is just the two "outriggers" mounting to the chassis it's probably not going to do the job.

I would far rather go for the factory setup with the M8000. Just buy a snatch block to make up for the possible lack of power.

Thanks folks for the valuable feedback. I will get the m8000 with factory cradle. The scrapyard is asking for 15000 ZAR...of course heavy negotiations are due to bring the price down

We buy a 9000 come up for about 6600 zar and winch plate 1500 zar that sounds a bit heavy for a second hand unit but its just my opinion hey ....

How much does a 9000lbs warn cost? We don't have come up distributor here. I did check the prices for new m8000 on Amazon US and they are zar9000.00 for winch only.

We do have the lesser known brands here, t-max...but the price was 9900zar for winch and fairlead only.

You will never go wrong with warn winch very good quality a bit overpriced here about 11000 zar for a 9000 pound one .
We normally bolt them to bull bars but the odd wichplate is floating around ...try to get the plasma rope like Chris suggested ..
