Nissan 4x4 GL (1999) - Valve cover gasket sought

Post by efreken »

Hopefully this is the correct forum for this enquiry.

My wife and I reside in Costa Rica, own a 5th generation Nissan Patrol 4x4 GL, year 1999, 4.5 L (petrol / left hand drive) vehicle, and are currently seeking a Valve Cover Gasket.
Frustratingly, we appear to be the owners of the only Nissan Patrol GL of its type in the WHOLE of Latin America and the USA, and have always had to get original parts (at a huge cost!) from Australia.  No Latin American Nissan Dealers (including Nissan in San Jose, Costa Rica) can supply this part. Sourcing this single item is proving to be extremely difficult!

We do have relatives/friends in South Africa (Durban was my home town) who can forward this item to me - so no import/export hassles. I would greatly appreciate hearing from any forum members who can assist. Thank you

Gasket sets are available from Masterparts in Cape town. They will also ship to your relatives in Durban. The man to speak to is Dean.

Hello Lance, I live in Nicoya Guanacaste and have the same 1999 Patrol 4.5L gas TB45. Searching for parts myself, I actually joined this forum to contact you as I have been in the same situation and have amassed solutions for our "no part or few parts" problem in Costa Rica. Of course, I will be more than happy to network all my info and help find the best options as each case arises. I really enjoy my car and bought it at quite a discount so fixing it up is not so painful, but definitely challenging. Since there are no problems in life and only solutions, we can kick this parts issue in CR in the arse. I have had the radiator professionally rebuilt replacing the brass top with a custom job aluminum top for $150 in San Jose (the original brass is incompatible with the core and accelerates rust), cleaned out and painted with guarantee, all new 4 disc and pads brakes, 4 new belts, and a harmonic balancer seal if you can believe it, Nissan Radio from an Infiniti i30 that has the same 6CD changer $100 all working found on www.mercadolibre.com. There is a 2005 3.o diesel being parted out in Perez Zeledon if you need odd and ends body or interior parts. Anyway, the point is that the Patrol is a safe and solid car and will pay the extra gas cost to drive it. Keep the faith. Also, there is a Patrol Club of CR that I just found today !! Contact me as you wish. 8928-4009 or puravidapierre@hushmail.com , if you need help on anything. Take care...
