Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

Good afternoon!

On my *99 GRX I have a spot which is developing quite a bit of corrosion. Obviously it is coming from the inside, I couldn't see any sediment or mud on the inside of the area, using a boroscope.

The area seems to be developing since six months now, I will sort that in the next weeks.

Is that place known to have an issue with corrosion? Might it theoretically be caused by a missing or loose ground cable?
It is basically the only area on the whole car with corrosion at all.

And: does somebody know the code for the white paint of the Patrol?

When I bought my Patrol due to some misunderstanding I ended up with a second one. The one that I sold again was a '99 4.5 GRX and it corroded on the same place but also on the left hand side. The previous owner had a beach house in Henties Bay and the Patrol was mainly used on these trips. So I would think that the sea water collects there and starts the rust from the inside.

Ahhhh.... I am lucky as I don't have any rust that I can see in that area...... however, If my memory is correct, I do recall cleaning out heaps of mud caught inside that area. I seem to remember ( I did this a long time ago) taking off the fender flares and the wheel well lining and mud guard. and scooping the mud out with my hands. You can get right into the cavity to clean it out.

Dawid has a couple of GU bodies at his place just have a look at how bad the rust is and replace the section needed

Is corrosion still of interest here?
In germany we use in winter salt on the streets, so nearly all german people, who are interested in keeping their cars in good condition, are fighting with rust.
So I have much knowledge in preventing rust.

thanks for the link.

Actually I am also from Germany and know a bit about the winter salt and it's effect on a car.

The car just went to the mechanic to sort out the corrosion. Obviously there has been some mud on the inside of the metal, it is open and if you drive through rivers or so there is quite a chance that some mud or sand will stay there.

As soon as you drive through water again, the sand is soaked with water and can spread the disease.

There also was quite a bit of corrosion under the fender.

It might be that a small piece of new metal is needed, I will follow up.

Ok, I got the car back. I am just using my phone now so I can't post the picture.
But there was an are of about 12x13 cm which basically was only hold together by the paint.


But now it looks as new again - let's hope it'll last!

You know what to do against such surprises in future?
You know the mixes from petroleum jelly and bee wax?
Chain grease?
Boiled linseed oil?

Actually I just know the 'normal' wax and corrosion preventing stuff you can get in the auto stores.
Are the mixtures you mentioned better than the stuff you can buy?

I know managed to get the picture of the cut out piece on a computer, have a look.....
