Im restoring a tan/beige color safari and looking for new or very good condition used parts. Contact me for any parts you have. The safari is currently at a shop in wonderboom Pretoria but soon as it is done I am exporting it. Initially I will need front and rear bumpers, the safari has big wide custom bars on which I don't particularly like and I prefer the stock smaller profile bumpers. The previous owner also reupholstered the 2 front seats and all side panels (door trim) with a dark brown leather and would have to go as well. Also looking for the black gear shifter rubber boot and original gear shift knob. Also looking for the radio faceplate with the clock mounted to the right of the radio. If you have pictures of the stock engine bay (2.8l carb motor) send to me , I like to see what my safari is missing, especially on the intake side/filter housing etc. The previous owner installed a snorkel, which is not connected to the intake! And also eliminated some other parts so I'd like to start get an idea of what is missing to bring it back to stock function.
Where do you all buy your safari parts in south Africa? Does Nissan still stock most things like filters, seals, bearings, brake pads, etc? I live in the USA and want to get an idea where I can order parts. I know only of a few shops in Australia that still carry parts for the mq/mk160, curious to know where you guys in south Africa go for parts. Especially for transmission and suspension parts. The Nissan 2.8l is still supported in the USA, especially rebuilt and performance parts are plenty.

I'm not sure if you are looking to restore the Safari to original or almost original spec and condition, but an aftermarket bumper will always make a visual impact. I don't know if the GQ or Y60 is interchangeable with the Safari, but I would think that they are VERY similar in body. Have a look at this post from Grant. He might even be able to pay you a visit in the USA when he goes over there occasionally. I know his Patrol VERY well, and can vouch for the quality and condition if it will fit your Safari.

Thanks for all the replies, I'll follow up. The safari is at my brother in wonderboom Pretoria and after I bought it a week ago had it taken directly to a shop that can do some basic work on cleaning it up. I won't be able to restore it to its original glory but just want it to be in a decent condition and where possible look original. I really liked the safari mq160 when it first came out and my dad drove a few as his company car _ he worked for Datsun/Nissan back in the good days. Owning one will bring back the memories. I have a buddy who import and sell Rhd land cruisers in the USA there definitely is a market for the original SUVs of the 80s.

Can someone recommend a shop for mechanical work on the safari, in the Pretoria area? I want to have the safari thoroughly checked and serviced before I have it shipped. Once in the USA parts will be hard to get and expensive. I can do a lot of work myself and access to a Datsun service shop but I know from experience restoring a z car getting parts will be difficult.

If all goes well with this one I want to export a few more to the USA, have a couple other people contacted me re. cost and feasibility to get these in the usa . all models older than 1989 is now legit.

Where fo you guys buy maintenance parts for the safari/patrol mq/160? Such as window wipers, seals, bushings, filters, shocks, springs, shakles etc. im looking for either an online shop where i can order and have it shipped or someone that i can email with my needs, he can buy the parts for me, box and ship them to me in the Usa. I do know a few online stores in japan and Australia, but lookimg for a trustable south african supplier
