Rasper Bumper Rebuild

Good Day All

I have seen a lot of interest in this bumper that Rasper made..... I am also very keen on the bumper myself.. But it looks like Conrad from Rasper has closed down.. So to help the guys out, including myself.. I am going to start to try copy the Rasper Rear bumper and see if I can remake it.... I should be able with a little help from the guys on this site to make a perfect match....

I Know that Kobus, who lives near me has the bumper on his GRX GU..... so I am going to try and arrange that me and a partner go see him and take the right measurements off the vehicle for the bumper.... So that we can get it as close to the original bumper that Rasper made... The only difference is that the spare wheel mounting and some hinges might change as we use different designs....

The only 2 problems I have now is -

1 - Does anyone have a problem with me copying the bumper to supply you guys with what you want?
2 - I need to know how many people will be interested in this bumper, as it will affect the cost of the bumper if I can make a couple of them. instead of just a once off....

So please feel free to voice opinions and put your name on a list if you would be interested in a bumper....

I have no problem you making a copy, would not think there would be a patent on something like that, could you give us a ball park in the price???

He could not patent a bumper like this. The only option the original manufacturer might have had is to do a design registration, but if you change something small like the lights the design registration will not have an effect on this build. You can also reverse engineer something and sell it. Patents are most of the time a waste of money. The bigger companies do not care if they steal your patent, the average person do not have the resources to contest them in court.

I like the design. If it is close to affordable I will be interested in something like this. If you can get it on to CAD and laser/plasma cut the parts it will not be to difficult to assemble.

All the best for the build. Keeping my eye on this post.

I also like the bumper and don't have an issue with a copy.
I though have the Y61 (facelift) so myself would be interested in the CAD model to adapt to fit the Y61.
Do you see this as an possible option?

Coenrad (Rasper) did his designs and on computer and used NC cutting machines - it may be possible for someone to buy his design for reasonable price instead of re-inventing the wheel??

Chris Skinner i managed to get hold of Conrad Wife or Girlfriend about 4 weeks ago, she told me Rasper does not exist anymore.... i then asked if i could buy the CAD drawings and she never came back to me... i then carried on trying to get hold of them until now.... but the phone is off...

i am going to try build the bumper for +/- R13 000-00 it all depends on the steel pricing and quantity??
