Nissan Patrol 4x4 (Africa)

My starter has been acting up in the last month, it started or rather began w about a month ago when i tried turning the key and nothing happened, a quick jab on the starter kicked it into life. I cleaned and checked it and some brushes were really short. last 2 days it did 3 times and I don't like anybody seeing my car with bonnet open so quickly replaced it last night.
The good news was that the 4.8 share it's starter with the 4.5 and 4.2(petrol?) siblings and I bought one some time ago for 1.5k from breno's auto in Kensington, Jhb.

For once spares was affordable and available. I will clean the old one, see if the brushes I bought fit and will revert to the forum on the details.

PS , starter brushes lasted just shy of 200k km but it might have had a hard life as mentioned in other post. I cleaned on previous occasions and it had a serious amount of clutch friction material left behind by PO.

I had the same problem and also got one from Breno in Boksburg and had the old one fixed as well.

Later I had another problem with the starter and found that the starter kicked in while I was driving and it broke the brushes off. I found that the problem was the ignition and changed the wires to a start push-button and never had that problem again.

Will definitely keep an eye or ear open for that. I have a 3 year old who insist on assisting to start the Patrol, remove the key etc So I'm sure the mechanical and electrical part of the ignition switch had some extra use. He also assisted and gave some advise while I worked under car last night. Apparently he fixed the brakes, also told me the one was not as good as the others.
