National Luna Charge splitter

Hi Everyone

I am in a bit of a spot as I am leaving for Namibia tommorrow minus a working charge splitter...

I baught the vehicle fitted with a National luna charge splitter but to date never had a second battery connected. I connected my new battery and battery box yesterday but from what I can see the splitter is not working. I have tested all other cabling to and from the batteries up to the splitter which is fine. The Duel battery monitor is also not detecting the second battery.

I can rewire the splitter this evening as the smaller wirring for the monitors are a bit sketchy and hope it is something simple like that and then based on that take issue further..

Is there any basic test I can do without doing the above to veryfy the splitter is working? I am as bit squeezed for time so the quicker the diagnostic procedure the better.

When motor is running I am getting about 14.5v charge so as far as I know it should be sufficient for the system to work. I also made sure their is no cross polarity.

If you are getting 14.5v at the second battery the power part is working....?

Just a quick one you are waiting 5 mins from start up till the solenoid engages arn't you? There is a way to bypass the solenoid have it done on my 4500 but it is in Jhb and I am am in kzn. I think it my just be bridging out the solenoid? Anyone???

Your charge needs to be more than 13.9v at the N/L system or it wont kick in.

Hi All

I have waited 5 minutes and I am getting about 14.5v on the splitter's connector on the primary batteries side. I have in the meantime ordered another splitter to try tonight.

I think that sounds like the right plan, to me it sounds like your solenoid is not working, best of luck!

Does the second battery have to drop to a specific threshold before any activity will be noticed on the split charge unit?

Not that I know of, that is what the solenoid is there for, it allows your main battery to charge after start up then 5 mins later opens up the solenoid to allow charging of your 2 nd battery, then when you switch off the ignition it closes again so you do not drain both batteries while using your fridge ect

Thanks Ian. Hopefully the new one will give me some luck. Also bought the double battery monitor controller unit that I can manually activate the solenoid with. So no need for the 5 minute wait periods etc.

If you have hassles with it along the way......take wire from body to the small black wire on solenoid , there are only 2 a red and a black take it to the black . It will force the solenoid in .
Had to do that to 4 cars in botz once battery goes to low when it kicks in and alternator voltage are low becouse of flat battery pulling it down it will not stay in . With this plan you can get the voltage up and then disconnect it before you turn of the engine
