Engine Oil Cooler

I have decided to have an aftermarket oil cooler fitted to my Troll. My Troll is at my trusted service provider SAC Centurion for this mod, and will be their for a couple of days as Gerhard needs to find a location and do the piping.
Came back from camping and driving up the long hill through Pretoria and the N1, coolant temp got to 104C but as soon as we got over the crest, the temperature dropped back down to 88C. Cooling the oil should ensure better composition over the 5000 km change interval, and also assist a little in cooling the engine.
As my turbo is the Safari type and is also water cooled, I presume it adds 4 to 5C to the water temp. I have never looked at removing these cooling lines as it has added to the turbo's reliability. This turbo has been overhauled once in its 330 k life so far and is still running well, as it ensures I have the 92kW on the wheels when I need it.\
Will post some pics after the mod has been done.

Never a bad thing, but don't stick it in front of the radiator? I would say have a look at fitting it in the front bash plate (obviously with some addd pretection).
I would also recommend proper Aeroquip braided hoses.

Hi Peter,
That is the idea. Want it mounted behind the bash plate with extra steel grating for protection. 4x4 trails are over as I am now a true overlander. Focusing on getting the Troll kitted to the hilt and last item I need is a 40lt fridge to add to the 32lt I have.

Hi Grant
No more 4x4 trails? Not ever?
We will miss you

Hi Christo,
Done too many trails over the last two years. Alex, my December trip opened a new door which my wife and I have jumped through. Adventure is now the name I will carry and exploring all the area's of Southern Africa is my focus.
Greg took us to Kubu and Kokonje Island, and what a trip. This December I am going to explore more of the Baviaans and its surroundings, not booking accommodation and only travelling on dirt roads.

Grant we might meet in the Baviaans. We are also planning a trip there in December. Camping as we go.

Hi Marinus,
Great. Cedric and I are looking at leaving Gauteng on the 19th/20th and head down to Cradock. From there we will be on the trails and travel through the Baviaans. I am going to make some tentative bookings in the caves, and also want to do some hiking.
Back on topic
The great news is that the cooler is on but what a job. Having a front mounted inter cooler does no leave much room. The cooler is from a kit that Nissan supplied with the old 2,7 lt turbo engine and fits snugly next to the inter cooler behind the grill. A very tight fit and Gerhard at SAC was kind enough to have proper crimped hoses fitted and run to the primary filter. Witt\h the engine running I put my hands between the filters, thus being able to feel the difference between the temps. What a difference.
The last mod will be to remove all the material out of the grill in front of the radiators and have some fin grating fitted, so to allow for better air flow. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Howdy Grant,
Not any sugestions yet, but I am watching this thread as I would like to increase the cooling of my truck as well. Espessially for those very hot summer days in a fully loaded Troll.

Andre,
I have it fitted but have not tested although with the engine running, there is a Hugh temp difference as the cooler is connected to the primary (front) filter. If is slide my hand between the two filter so that the back touches the rear filter and the front of my hand touches the cooled filter, so can feel a marked difference. Pics are very difficult as everything is hidden away but I will see what I can get over the weekend.
I will also see what if i can get hold of a heat gun and get an accurate reading.
