Interesting comparison: Amarok vs Patrol ownership
Hi all
OK, so nothing new that the itch just won't stop.
I had a look at jan.dup's calculation elsewhere in the 'For Sale'-section and started thinking about actually comparing running costs between my current and dream vehicle.
Assumptions:
- Similar driving style
- Similar fuel price
- Distance per annum less in Patrol (drive the wife's Tiguan on weekends)
- 5 year depreciation
Attached my calculations; any comments? What am I missing here...??

Interesant as jy op die eerste bladsy die Trol se km's deiselfde as die rok sin maak is dit amper dieselfde, en ek glo as jy mooi ry sal jy 5km/l op die Trol kry en nie 4.5km/l nie. So nog nader aan die rok se prys /km. En glo my die Trol se dienste teen 30000km/jaar gaan jou nie sommer R30000/jaar kos nie,............ welllll tensy iets drasties breek, dus nog nader aan die rok se prys.

Yes but is the roc still going to be on the road after 5 years (two litre twin turbo motor??) the troll would be! and the next 5 and the next5..........

IanT, to be honest I would like to think so. Considering that there are quite a few 1.9TDi VW motors, e.g. Golf 5, still on the road, I am tempted to say that it would more likely than not, still be around. My concern is not so much the longevity (although... with a 4.8 at my side, this might become a moot point..) but the day-to-day living with a Trol as well as the safety. One does start to accept the extensive safety features of the Rok as standard and it is an important factor, although I'm happy with ABS and airbags; TC is a nice extra.

Dankie, maar dit is nie die probleem nie, ek kon hom download, maar die rekenaar se Xcell is baie oud. Ek sal hom seker maandag by die werk kan oopmaak.
Wat ek wel wil se, (jammer as ek nou iets se wat jy klaar in berekening gebring het), is dat die Patrol eers begin finansieel sin maak as jy aanneem dat hy baie baie lank gaan hou, sonder om op enige stadium ewe skielik baie duur gaan word om te onderhou (alhoewel daar altyd onvoorsiene uitgawes gaan wees) en jy dus bereid is om 'n tweedehandse Patrol wat reeds uit sy waarborg is, met 'n nuwe of amper-nuwe Amarok te vergelyk, een wat nog deur die agente gediens moet word om die waarborg te behou.
Ek doen my Patrol se dienste self, en hulle kos my ongeveer R1 500 per 10 000 km. Dit sluit goeie olie en alle filters en vonkproppe elke diens en nuwe ratkas-en-dif olie elke tweede diens in. Ek ry ook my PAtrol daagliks, en sit so 15k km per jaar op. Dus glo ek R30k per jaar wat hier bo genoem is, is onredelik hoog?
As jy weier hier lees, sal jy sien dat ek nou na 300 000km sy head gekraak het (meestal glo ek weens swak onderhoud van die vorige eienaar en 'n stjoepit eksperiment met elektrise waaiers). Ek gaan die enjin vervang met 'n nuwer een en die hele proses gaan my waarskynlik minder as R20k kos.

Firstly, as stated above, I do believe you have overestimated the Patrol's service costs drastically.

Wat die mense jou nie vertel nie is dat by die turbo plekke die amarokke tou staan .......om teg gemaak te word
ek het n 4.8 gekoop met 5000km op het hom vir 8 jaar gery en net olies en briekblokkies gedoen niks gebreek ens nie
het hom nou op 145 000km verkoop en al my dienste saam was nie eers 12000 rand nie ........
verder koop mens nie n nuwe patrol nie dit maak nie sin nie een met min kilos kos BAIE minder en spaar jou baie geld
ek sal na die berekeninge kyk kan dit nie oopmaak op my foon nie
